I'm going to let her work speak for itself, but if you want to read more jibber jabber from me about her, you can visit my blog: commandax.blogspot.com/2008/04/kelly-vivanco.htmlAnd here's her website: www.kellyvivanco.com/"Constellation" "New Growth" "Dusk Watchers" "Lantern Birds" "Nest Box" "Bird Hero" "Landing Strip" "Rider" "Corvus Coat" "Ink" "Predawn" "Sky" "Lens with the Fur Hood" "Pink Molecules" "Her Favorite Red"

;D I'm getting "Harbor." I tried to resist, but it was futile. I'm going to have it sent to my house in Maine – it will look great hanging over my bedroom window, looking out on the fogbound bay.

I'm tempted, but I've declared a moratorium on buying art for the next three weeks, so this is a chance for you custom fanatics to hop on the Kelly Vivanco bandwagon. ;D I think the bear is kind of a hollow-tree house (part of Kelly's Peppermint Forest?)... and he has a little grassy knoll inside his head with a chair in it, from which a very small person could sit and contemplate the world through his tree-hollow eyes. For her upcoming group show Three Graces Gallery's Teeny Tiny Art Show III, 5th Sept, featuring small pieces of works "Party" "Nightbird" "Serious Knits" I'm not familiar with her animal themes, but the above "Harbor" looks quite amazing.

Kelly's eyes are hypnotic... I first noticed her piece from the distinction 57 charity show. Hopefully I can get something I like from her in the near future.

Thought I'd post some news from Kelly Vivanco, who's got a lot going on at the moment: First up, "Flight" has been issued as a limited edition giclee for $60... contact Kelly if you're interested: www.kellyvivanco.com/index.php?section=new&pt=flight"Sisters" (for Thinkspace's show at Art Basel) "Tomboy" (for Small Stuff II at Bear & Bird Gallery) "Eva" (not sure what this is for, but it's pretty, isn't it?) Kelly is also curating an 8"x8" show called "Infinity Squared" at Distinction Gallery in Escondido (where she has her studio, a really cool space that's worth checking out on its own). The show, which includes work by Allison Sommers, Jason Limon, Chris Ryniak, Dennis Hayes IV, Jeremiah Ketner, Josh Clay, Jenn Porreca, Ekundayo and others, opens on December 13th and will have a second opening on January 10th, for those who can't make it down on that busy pre-Christmas Saturday. I did a little overview/interview about the show, with links to the artists' websites here: commandax.blogspot.com/2008/11/kelly-vivancos-infinity-squared.html"Speckled" (for Infinity Squared at Distinction Gallery: www.distinctionart.com/upcoming.html )

one aspect about this art movement (if it qualifies as one anymore) is the inclusion of seasoned illustrators, . . . Todd Schorr and Mark Ryden come to mind immediately, . . .but so does Andrew Hem, Shawn Barber, and many others.
Kelly Vivanco's work can fall into that category as well, . . . I like the mysterious narrative that is in her work. Her subjects have just enough intrigue to their exressions, . . .I'll be watching how her work evolves for sure.

Yeah, she has a really shocking ability to stuff a whole bunch of personality into those little amphibian faces. "Cleaner" "Dawn Watchers"

Wickedly funny contributions to "Crazy for Cult 3"... "Charles De Mar" "This is pure snow! Do you have any idea what the street value of this mountain is?""Excuse me – I believe you have my stapler." "And I said, I don't care if they lay me off either, because I told, I told Bill that if they move my desk one more time, then, then I'm, I'm quitting, I'm going to quit. And, and I told Don too, because they've moved my desk four times already this year, and I used to be over by the window, and I could see the squirrels, and they were married, but then, they switched from the Swingline to the Boston stapler, but I kept my Swingline stapler because it didn't bind up as much, and I kept the staples for the Swingline stapler and it's not okay because if they take my stapler then I'll set the building on fire... "

In the DVD extras, Stephen Root apparently reveals that the key to his character Milton was the phrase "and the squirrels were married."
