I also like the idea of starting earlier next year. My choice was unfortunately rushed as well

Starting a little earlier sounds like a good plan - that time of year is busy for everyone and not having an extra thing to worry about or rush would be nice (would also ensure things arrive before Christmas). Maybe a minimum of 25 posts to participate? That way only more serious and active members are involved.

Those that 'participated' this year and didn't send anything shouldn't be eligible the following year.

Would be nice to keep it the least complicated as possible, I'm sure Sven would appreciate that ;)

So I am not exactly happy that I have not received my gift (yet), but I don't want to assume the worst in people. Christmas is just a bad time for shipping stuff, and unfortunately things do get lost in the mail (something we had to experience too, with sending out a lot of orders before Christmas).

Starting earlier would be nice, but organizing this thing any other way would probably take the fun out of it. If we don't trust each other that eyeryone sends their gifts, then we should better drop the idea at all instead of implementing some pawn-system or else.
Or maybe really let only people with a high number of posts participate?

It is great that Sven is taking the task of organizing this in the first place.

For me the paypal idea it isn't so much of a trust issue, but ensuring those who participate receive a gift. Katrin and mancub have an excellent point about keeping it simple though. I'd be interested in knowing if those who did not receive would be less likely to participate next year based on that experience.

Aaaaaaghhhhhhh! After weeks of sitting wondering if I had offended with my secret santa gift, I just got an email from amazon to the effect that the parcel I sent was deemed 'undeliverable'!!!

Fear not Peter, santa's on his way!

it's really disappointing that a substantial number of people did not get their gifts this year.
pretty much everyone involved is an established member of the forum. it may be that some items got lost in the post, but from my experience this is quite a rare thing to actually happen, especially with multiple recipients in multiple countries.

thanks for all the suggestions above. it does take up quite a few hours of organising , and has worked effectively as a system over the last few years, so i see no real need to change the way it is run so long as people do what they are supposed to do. the artchival is a pretty good collection of people and i don't think that anyone who participated has bad intentions...

point taken about the time that i end entries. if i do it next year, then i'll definitely consider running it a bit early, but not too early as it's about the xmas spirit!

i did take ken's advice much earlier in the thread, and split the names into two groups for the drawing. 1 group for europe and 1 group for usa / canada / australia. i didn;t tell anyone this before, but thought it was a good suggestion that would generally speed up things. there was a large enough pool of names to do this.

if you have not yet sent your gift, then please do so as soon as possible. i've had a few messages from people who have not received gifts yet, so i'll go about tracking through the pms to see who was sending to who (i had pieces of paper used for the draw, since discarded), but to save me the effort, if you haven't yet sent your gift then please do let me know and i can at least let the other person know so they don't think the gift is lost.
conversely, if a person has posted here that they didn't receive the gift you sent, then let me know so i can tell them the bad news.
i'll keep names out of it, so all is in confidence.

finally, if you have received your gift and not posted here, then please do so at least to settle my mind a little!

x
sven

Finally, here are photos of the gift I received. Sorry for lagging. Knowing my love for Keyes, my SS selected images for each side of a customized Rubik's Cube. A couple pics next to my interlock piece. Thanks!

Oh, and I think the current format is fine. Maybe a little more advance time. This is assuming there weren't more than 1-2 people who got screwed over. I'd say take stock at the end of January and see. Anyone who hasn't received their gift yet should contact Sven. Perhaps it got lost in the mail, etc...

It also pains me to see the amount of people who have not gotten their items yet, and I am sure my person I had is one of them ( which saddens me as my item was posted and shows delivered on Jan. 3rd ) this is by far my favorite post of the year and to see it take a turn like this makes me sad as I know the amount of work Sven goes into. I will say again I was contacted from a undisclosed PM informing me my gift in two parts was shipped one part to my Florida address and the other part they asked for my GA address as they have seen I have moved. I am hoping the one to Florida did not get returned due to my CRAPPY mail man, but come on people for the love of Valentines Day get your package out if you have not, and if you have gotten your package at least pop in and say so.

I have to say that I will be getting my gift late and have no gripes. It was a simple postal mistake and nothing that can be faulted by my ASS or Sven or even the system we have set in place. I think the only suggestion, which is a repeat, would be to start earlier. And that should be easy since Highbrow usually starts posting about the ASS in August and we are all used to time released prints so if you want in you know to get in on Black Friday/opening of christmas markets and we close it the first week of December. Still doesn't eliminate the issue of slow or less than intelligent postal workers but it should help@ I also think that a kind notification of a delayed gift is far more appreciated than having your ASS remain a secret. So thanks Andy and am still anxiously awaiting to know what is coming

Is that your zine?

Guess I can definitively state that nothing arrived for me, either. Sheesh!

I have received my gift, and a big 'Thanks!' to my A.S.S., but as I was only home shortly between trips, I didn't have time to take pics. I'll put some up when I get back in about 6 weeks.

As to the gift I sent, I received no confirmations from the site that I ordered from, and am working through a PayPal dispute while I look for something else. I PM'd my recipient sometime ago with my apologies, though.
