We had the Collabro exhibit in 2006 and I fell in love with this piece by Sylvia Ji, Josh Petker and Andrew Brandou. I agree that often times collaborative works do feel disconnected but this piece had each artists' signature style (at the time) and worked well together to create a whole new narrative that could only have been achieved with the different artists. I think alot of people from that exhibit were very excited about getting "two artists for one" but there were definitely cases where it was more successful than others. There was a MAC + Siloette piece that was amazing and lots of others that you'd probably recognize now (Alex Pardee, Skinner, Joe Ledbetter, etc) www.galleryad.com/art/archives/art/backroom/collabro/

I personally don't like that Craola and Joe Ledbetter collaboration. But, in general, I think that if you decide to purchase a collab, you better really love it because it's not the easiest to sell. You would have to find someone who loves the same combination of artists as well and who is willing to buy it. I have come close to purchasing one before from Craola and someone else but just couldn't get over the fact that I wasn't as into the other artist. I think one that worked particularly well (usually they don't i think) was this one.

generally speaking it seems that they are valued lower. I really like the Warhol Basquiat collabos as I think their styles are on opposite sides of the spectrum which in the end compliment each other well.
What about artist collectives? Aren't pretty much all of their works collabs?

I like some of the collaborations by certain artists, some seem to work well together, others sometimes clash. The Baby Tattooville pieces are incredible, that many great artists working so well together. Greg Simkins and JLed are two of my favorite artists, so I bought the one on ebay, I thought $2500 for a piece that size was a good deal.

Thanks tpthaler Sometimes the ones I love cost too much. I'm always happy to acquire a painting by Greg, I can't wait to see it in person.
