i agree. this guy has always impressed me. seems to be getting better and better. ditto. def proficient with the camera. was gonna grab kitty and horse fisherman early last year. such an amazingly bizarre shot, riddled with humor and juxtapositions. but was concerned with his work being too focused with the sea, a seemingly inescapable trap considering he splits his time as a fisherman and has almost spent a decade on a boat in the bearing sea. dude was even featured on the first couple seasons of the deadliest catch on discovery..but for fishing obviously and not photography, something slightly disconcerting as a collector. but that shot above is wonderful, as are some of his other more recent photos in this show.    and a little ai weiwei homage?! pretty funny.  |

that shot of the sea is my favorite one from him. always has been. i could stare at that one all day.

that shot of the sea is my favorite one from him. always has been. i could stare at that one all day. i bet it looks great as a large print. yeah, i've always loved the gulf crossing shot. but these two new shots of the ocean in motion..yeah, i just said that  ..are just wonderful. the energy and intensity is amazing. would thoroughly enjoy any of these three on the wall mounted up proper. his strongest work, for sure. his older one, Gulf Crossing..  and two newer ones, North Sea and Slack Water respectively..  |

btw. what the hell is going on in that first shot, throw down the mountain? fire, lava, slowly exposed sunrisee? pretty sure its a long exposure at sunset/sunrise. possibly burned in photoshop or an actual darkroom. anyone know prices for these? i inquired about pricing but just received a coy response from richard heller along the lines of "they run from $800 up to $6k, but you tell me which one you like and i'll tell you how much it is". i gave them a list of shots that i liked but have yet to hear back. maybe i wasn't specific enough for them but its hard to know which pieces are most interesting while being blind to prices; I might love a print at 1k and hate it at 5k...these sort of gallery games drive me nuts. i mean, why can't you just show me a price list? galleries... personal favorites are: Throw down the mountain, North Sea, Gulf Crossing, and Slack Water. love all four. |

had the same experience. he was up at the fairs and seemed busy and stressed. but still not that hard to be a little more courteous.

assuming gulf crossing, because it's older, is in the $3900 tier for the 30x40s not the $2400 tier. not sure but hope this helps a little.

thanks walt, that's quite helpful. i didnt even realize that they were being offered at different sizes. tempting. had the same experience. he was up at the fairs and seemed busy and stressed. but still not that hard to be a little more courteous. that makes sense. totally forgot that he was likely in ny. no big deal really. still, how hard is it to press send on a pdf file? or even better yet, how hard is it to have your art school intern push send on a pdf file?  |

These are very nice. Typically, shots of just the ocean and sky don't do anything for me, but these have a presence about them that other shots lack. Actually, I think the bird in North Sea takes away from the image as I prefer just the sea and sky in Gulf Crossing and Slack Water. Maybe it is the relationship between fisherman and sea that that is embodied in these images? Regardless, thanks for posting the pics.
