The new show is really terrific.
FYI, some of the names in the preview file were listed incorrectly according to the gallery rep I spoke with. If anyone is shopping for her work, make sure you confirm the item you want with a description and not the listed title.

certainly not for this show, which personally i was happy to see, as it was more this style of work she was making when i first got into her work. i think she had a lot of people asking why no day of the dead pieces at the show. i suppose as an artist, you wouldn't want to be wholly associated with that style and have to paint it forever, so i think it was healthy to see her change things up a bit.
the paintings were really impressive - i didn't know that she used a gold fleck - is it mica? - in a lot of the backgrounds she paints. it really lifted the pieces.

Agree 100%, but at the same time, I hope those never go away completely. The Hemlock, Moonflower, and Lily pieces stand out to me on this one. Really nice.

I'm glad Sylvia didn't do more Day of the Dead work for this show. In the long run it will make the those pieces special. I think people would lose interest pretty quickly if she became known for those pieces only.

Personally i love her day of the dead/mask pieces and if and when i do pick up an og of hers it will certainly be a dod piece.

She was way established before she started the DOD series - she's been painting for more than the last couple years. It was a series and she seems to be moving on, but sure she'll revisit at some point.
Is it true only one piece has sold thus far? Blown away by that...

hemlock sure was a nice piece. definitely the darkest in tone in the show. i loved the spider detail. congrats on picking up such a nice painting. did you go to the show or buy online?
i was suprised that only one painting sold on opening night. not sure of the situation now though...

That's very surprising considering the heat going into the show and I for one was very happy to see her drop the DOTD action as felt it was time to move on. Beautiful new pieces and props for picking that one up. Hope others in UK catch on to her work.

I agree. Her DoD work was amazing, but I am glad to see her pushing into new ideas and not resting on that one concept. Nectar shows her continued experimentation - I think a couple of them aren't as successful, but she's taking risks. The ones that do succeed, to me, are easily among her best and most detailed work. That's why I chose to invest in my favorite from the show.
