Great images from this show. I am not really a fan of the work in general but the show definitely looks impressive.
It seems like quite a long run for a museum exhibition. It will be really interesting to see the attendance numbers after the show closes.

good set of flicks tan. the mural looks impressive in its scale, and i like how the canvas' have been incorporated. the small ad disruptions look like the best and most meaningful work. had not seen the ck bottles before. nice. i guess these are all late 90's work? would that be when he stopped doing this sort of work? a lot of the other work, although extremely well executed - especially the product paintings - leaves me very cold and empty though.

Thanks Sven. I have to give props to my little point and shoot for hangin in there. The mural was so big I couldn't find a shot to fit it... maybe I'll get a big cammy with a fish eye in the future.
I agree, my faves were the mini maggie/photo disruptions. They do characterize my favorite period of his career. Around 2000 was when when he transitioned more to vinyl then to his current fine art medium.
I disagree on the product paintings. It's the packaging that's half the battle. The very consumerism and pop references that transitions his vinyl to his fine art. They are arguably what put him on the map.

To me, this is not an art show, but rather an overpriced giftshop. As said before, wel executed and there's no doubt Kaws had a lot to do with the vinyl booming at the turn of the century, but still... art?

As said before, wel executed and there's no doubt Kaws had a lot to do with the vinyl booming at the turn of the century, but still... art? As it was a retrospective, it included most of his work including his art products. Curious if were basing your opinion on the video footage that mainly focused on his toys, etc...? Or, if you were basing your opinion on his paintings and drawings that were at the exhibition as well?
