The second edition of Beyond Eden will be hosted by the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery at Barnsdall Park this coming October. Beyond Eden is a multi-gallery event celebrating the new contemporary art scene in Los Angeles. The public is invited to attend this special event and admission is free.

After the overwhelming success of last year’s Beyond Eden exhibition which drew over 5,000 people over the course of the weekend, the organizers are keeping the focus of the event on the new contemporary art movement. This genre of art has been building momentum and a patron base in Los Angeles for the past several decades and is finally starting to receive mainstream recognition from major institutions and publications the world over.

Beyond Eden will showcase the works of over a half dozen galleries and will be held inside the beautiful confines of the historic Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery during the weekend of October 9th and 10th with an opening night celebration planned for Saturday, October 9th. Participating galleries include Carmichael Gallery, C.A.V.E. Gallery, Copro Gallery, Crewest, La Luz De Jesus, LeBasse Projects, and Thinkspace.

Beyond Eden will also feature the presentation of a lifetime achievement award to the one and only Robert Williams. In addition the event will also feature the LA premiere of Humble Pictures’ ‘New Brow’ film along with live painting demonstrations throughout the gallery alongside special installations from local street artist Shark Toof and Australian artistic duo Dabs Myla. Rounding out the event is a special showcase celebrating underground art event Cannibal Flower’s 10 Year Anniversary.

Founded in 1951, the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery is a historic 10,000 square foot facility located on the sprawling grounds of Olive Hill in the Barnsdall Art Park. The park overlooks the city of Los Angeles and is also home to the famous Frank Lloyd Wright Hollyhock House and Arts Complex. Under the Department of Cultural Affairs, the LAMAG is the premier city-run gallery that focuses on contemporary art, particularly the work of living Southern California artists.

COMING UP THIS WEEKEND EVERYONE!!!

Shark Toof and Dabs Myla both start on their installations this week and all the galleries will be going in this Wed and Thur to hang their works. Going to be a fun event plus we'll be presenting Robert Williams with a special lifetime achievement award. We're honored he's going to be a part of this special event!

All the galleries are bringing out a nice mix of new works and choice works from their inventory, not to mention the on-site installations and murals being created... so please plan to come on out to Barnsdall this Saturday to check out BEYOND EDEN at the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery designed by Frank Lloyd Wright (and with the way the city is handling things, this may well be one of the last exhibits to show at this historical venue for art in Southern California).

Beyond Eden art fair is this weekend and the film "New Brow" will be showing. I personally can't make it. If there is a Q&A session with the film makers, can someone please ask them the following questions:

1) When will it hit theaters and exit the film festivals

2) When will it be available on DVD

I'll ask Tanem if he knows - he won't be down as we are just showing the film on a loop in a small media room with a couple dozen chairs for viewing. So no Q&A with the director sadly. I know he's still showing it around, hopefully on DVD soon. Great movie.

The installs from Dabs Myla, Shark Toof, Bumblebee and Euth are really, really looking good. So much great stuff this year and all together and much more well rounded and strong showing than we had in place last year. Really pumped for all to see this year's BEYOND EDEN! By far THE event of the weekend in LA - so don't miss it!!!

Thanks Sven - this one came together really quick this year due to all the chaos with LA's Dept of Cultural Affairs and the Terminator slicing the arts left and right... event was in question up until about June as the LA Municipal Art Gallery may get sold off by the city - after over 50 years of supporting local artists in LA, that's a big blow, so we're hoping we bring some fresh energy and new faces to LAMAG this weekend and get them an extension... right now come Dec, things don't look very good. The space is stunning and the grounds covered in Frank Lloyd Wright architecture including his legendary Hollyhock House. Even with all that up against us, I must say this one is so much stronger and more focused than last year's event and features some amazing site-specific installs that beg to be seen in person. All brought their A game and I'm pumped for that.
