Lots of people said the same thing . It started with international buyers being welcome for the prints too but that changed last minute .

I feel like the point of some of these works was to look less "refined". I like how Audrey did some of her more traditional work and mixed in art going in a new direction. I hardly think she is churning out poor works just to make a quick buck.
I for one thought it was a great show. She Entwined was my favorite piece but Just Between Us and Tangled are great pieces too. I have enjoyed watching her increase both the size and complexity of her pieces and do not think this show was in any way a step back.

I think its largely a function of the pricing of her pieces and at the risk of sounding stupid "it's the economy stupid." I still think the demand is high but I think there are just a lot fewer people who can spend 10k on a piece as opposed to 5k.

So, it looks like based on the preview link (although it may not be up to date), only two paintings are unsold. I'd say that's pretty good. Not sure why Tangled or Just Between Us didn't sell yet as I like them both. Perhaps her main base of fans are not as interested, or want to go through the trouble to make an overseas purchase or reluctant to buy without seeing them in person. Or, maybe the way the sales were handled towards overseas buyers turned some people off? To be fair, I think the point of having a show overseas is to find new buyers so selling to Australian customers would be the first preference.
As for less refined, I don't think the paintings were less refined if you are referring to her main style. The more rough ones were just something new she was doing and were painted that way on purpose - looks like they all sold by the way. Perhaps they were done that way to allow those with a lower price range to purchase an original?
As for Stranger, yes, not one that I like. But, it sold so someone must have liked it. I liked the one with the man and woman. Usually, her guys are a little fem haha, but not as much this time.

I think its largely a function of the pricing of her pieces and at the risk of sounding stupid "it's the economy stupid." I still think the demand is high but I think there are just a lot fewer people who can spend 10k on a piece as opposed to 5k. It does seem to me to be the case that the art market is under increasing pressure-- are others finding this? On one hand despite the economy, luxury goods have had a record year, on the theory that people are spending less on even bigger ticket items like houses and sportscars (well, I guess it depends on the artist). I'm experiencing it in that while I barely know what the hell I'm doing as a relatively newbie collector, there seem to be openings for "A" works that I understand were formerly very hard to get, and pieces remaining unsold from artists who were sellouts just a few years-- heck a few seasons-- ago. Is Audry a good case study for this? Her pricing seems to have remained fairly stable from what I can gather. Weezy
