ROA is coming!!! by thinkspace_gallery, on Flickr Thinkspace presents a special pop-up event with ROA Sat, Nov. 13th 6PM-Midnight On view: Nov. 13th - Nov. 24th Taking place at New Puppy Gallery 2808 Elm Street in Los Angeles We’re excited to announce that we will be presenting Belgian-born artist ROA‘s debut west coast solo show on Sat, Nov. 13th. This will be a special pop-up event presented by Thinkspace and taking place at New Puppy Gallery just outside of downtown Los Angeles. ROA has been extremely busy of late and traveling all over Europe. So far this summer he’s put up amazing pieces at Nuart, Infart, Critica Urbana, Popup! 2010, and just finished up a nice piece as part of Stroke.03 in Berlin, Germany. On top of that he did a special piece in the UK that ended up on the cover of the recent issue of VNA. He arrives into LA this week... Check out a nice set of ROA’s work on the streets courtesy of Unurth here: www.unurth.com/index/filter/RoaCheck out ROA's Flickr here: www.flickr.com/photos/roagraffiti/Watch for more details to be announced soon... as well as works from ROA popping up about town... He'll be doing a series of murals about town and inside the gallery but plan is for around a dozen works varying in size/pricepoint. Will be sure to keep all posted here... hopefully some smaller works on paper too (similar to the piece in current Sketch Book group show at POW).

By Freddy's house Seriously though they are in NE area of LA - east of Echo Park - near Elysian Park - I'd strongly suggest doing Mapquest to find the spot. It's where we did the pop-up show for Dabs Myla last November. Tons and tons of street parking all over the place.

Picking up ROA tomorrow from LAX in the afternoon... we'll hit the ground running on Fri in downtown. Look for pics from the first day or two this weekend. He'll be hitting up downtown, Venice, the outside of the space where the show will be taking place and more if time permits. Can not wait!

2-story possum to kick things off tomorrow - Sun will see him going a bit bigger... spent the day hitting up salvage and scrap yards, second hand shops and Good Will outlets, Home Depot and driving up and down all sorts of shady alleys and messed up spots of LA gathering all matter of supplies for the big show.

I really enjoyed watching Roa paint that possum yesterday. If you're not familiar with his philosophy and technique, here's a thoughtful article about him from earlier this year.

As it stands, ROA is busy working away on the show. One main street piece up at 7th and Mateo, 2nd almost finished on the gallery warehouse space where show is taking place... BIG wall planned for week of 15th following the opening and we hope to have a digital preview out the day prior or morning of the show.
I hope to post a couple preview shots closer to show of the space coming together but ROA has asked we don't show too much just yet... all I can see is he's one clever fella. How he came up with some of these just hurts my head... one of the major works features six huge wooden doors.
More pics soon...

Unurth and Dailydujour both coming through on Thursday it looks like (possibly AM and Jux too)... so look for some pics surfacing this Friday.
I just left the space and all I can say is WOW. When ROA landed in LA he had some big plans and all is really coming together now... the warehouse space is very large and will be filled with numerous wall murals, large stand-alone type work, hanging works on metal, small works on wood and paper, a slide show, films and more. Lots of 'reveal' type flip-open work and some lenticular works as well. He's really outdone himself. Plus a nice life and death cycle mural on the front of the warehouse/gallery space.
Look for sneak peeks to follow this Fri as he's asked we keep all under wraps until then.
This Sat 6PM-Midnight at 2808 Elm Street (corner of Cypress) - easily accessible via the 110 or the 5. Trust me, you don't want to miss this.

Thanks everyone - so bummed I missed it, hit with the WORST food poisoning I have ever had... just brutal. The pics I'm seeing are just awesome. Some AMAZING shots already posted over at dailydujour.com - ROA just killed it. We'll have a digital overview of the remaining works spread later today. Will post here once ready.
