Ivory & Black Soho proudly presents “Gin & Juice,” a group exhibition featuring new work by Andrew Schoultz, Cleon Peterson, James Jean, Richard Colman and Ryan Travis Christian. The first group exhibition at Ivory & Black and the first time all of these artists are brought together in London, this marks an exciting time for the contemporary art scene. “Gin & Juice” celebrates the start of summer with fresh works from this troupe of young artists. In a visual playground, the vibrancy of these works questions the perception of the world around us. Ranging from the macabre to the playful and bright, the underlying humor in their works is a glimpse into the Californian subcultures they hail from. Steeped in dreamlike yet dark imagery, the work displays a sense of idealistic naivety but also deals with issues of sexuality, violence and disorder.

Andrew Schoultz (b. 1975, Wisconsin) received his BFA from the Academy of Art University, San Francisco. He has had solo exhibitions in Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Copenhagen, Philadelphia, Rotterdam, Boston, London, Portland, Detroit and Milan, amongst these at the Andy Warhol Museum, Torrance Art Museum, Havana Biennial, Hyde Park Arts Center, Laguna Art Museum, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Frederick R. Weisman Foundation and the Progressive Art Collection. He also has publicly funded murals in Portland, Jogjakarta (Indonesia) and San Francisco. Schoultz lives and works in San Francisco.

Cleon Peterson (b. 1973, Washington) received his M.F.A. at The Cranbrook Academy and his B.F.A. in Graphic Design at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. He has had exhibitions at New Image Art in Los Angeles, Miami Art Basel , Deitch Projects in New York, Joshua Liner Gallery in New York, and Prism Los Angeles. Peterson lives and works in Los Angeles.

James Jean (b. 1979, Taiwan) received his B.F.A. from the School of Visual Arts in New York. He has had exhibitions at Martha Otero Gallery, Jonathan Levine Gallery, GR Biennale, Japanese American National Museum, The Museum of Modern Art, Riverside Art Museum, Scion Installation Space, Silvermine Guild Arts Center, Shore Institute of Contemporary Art, and SOHO20 Gallery. He lives and works in Los Angeles.

Richard Colman (b. 1976, Maryland) graduated from the School of The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Massachusetts in 2002. He has had exhibitions at V1 Gallery, New Image Gallery, ARKEN Museum of Modern Art, Museum of Contemporary Art Gallery, Gallery Magda Danysz, Art Brussels, Aqua Art Fair, Art Copenhagen, Zoo Art Fair and was recently commissioned to do an installation for Gagosian Gallery in Beverly Hills. He lives and works in San Francisco.

Ryan Travis Christian (b. 1983, California) received his BFA in Painting at the Northen Illinois University in 2007. He has had exhibitions at Guerrero Gallery in San Francisco, Subliminal Projects in Los Angeles, Cooper Cole in Toronto, SCOPE New York, Museum of Modern Art Rotterdam, Roots and Culture Contemporary Art Center amongst others. He lives and works in Chicago.

Ivory & Black Soho is a new gallery dedicated to New Contemporary Art, located on 94 Berwick Street in the heart of London’s Soho. Founded in 2011 by Pedro Matos and Rui Da Paz Louro – Ivory & Black shows the most exciting artists working today, such as Andrew Schoultz, Cleon Peterson, Cheryl Dunn, Deanna Templeton, Ed Templeton, Geoff McFetridge, James Jean, Pedro Matos, Richard Colman, Ryan Travis Christian, Skullphone and Erik Brunetti.
