Are the fumes from enamels really so strong that a respiratory mask is necessary? Can't imagine it's all that comfortable and as such wouldn't be worn if absolutely necessary. But never seen another artist got to such lengths so wondering if it's more a product of habit than anything.

I don't do any brush painting but with spray paint, even with a vacuum booth, the smell does become nauseating after several hours, so it could be a precaution. Respirators are really uncomfortable though, so I would prefer having to take breaks than to wear that thing for longer than an hour.
