David Stoupakis
Ashes To Sorrow
Solo Exhibition
September 8th β October 19th
NEW YORK, NY (September 8th, 2012)- Last Rites Gallery presents Ashes To Sorrow, new works by David Stoupakis, in what will be his first solo show at the gallery.
David Stoupakis is an internationally recognized painter who creates eerie portraits of beings that appear wise beyond their years. The self-taught artist adds both haunting imagery and grim fairytale-like elements to his work to juxtapoz childhood innocence with macabre surroundings. In Ashes to Sorrow, his new collection of drawings and oil paintings, David creates a continuation of his previous body of work- Walking with These Shadows. He states βIt is a further journey for me to better understand loss, the unknown, what lies beyond and to get peace.β
Stoupakis' paintings have been exhibited across the planet and been featured by publications including Rolling Stone Magazine, The LA Times, MTV, the BBC, Revolver Magazine, Spin and more; in addition to having been used as album artwork for bands such as Korn.

Matthew Bone
Raised By Wolves
Solo Exhibition
September 8th β October 19th
NEW YORK, NY (September 8th, 2012)- Last Rites Gallery presents Raised By Wolves, new works by Matthew Bone, in what will be his second solo show at the gallery.
With his new work Matthew Bone continues to explore the visual language he created as a child when massive unmonitored media consumption informed his worldview. A latchkey kid from an early age, pornography, comic books and movies formulated his ideas of sexuality, masculinity, and femininity- in essence reality and perception were sculpted by imaginary worlds steeped heavily in sensationalistic imagery. Hindsight has allowed the clarity to investigate and re-contextualize this information like a newly illuminated cave painting seeing the light of day after centuries of hidden dormancy. Utilizing the conventions of comics and sci-fi and the pornographic icons from his youth to illustrate how these disparate elements coalesce into an expanding body of work.
