A young artist who seems to have a piece or two in every group show. Had a commission done by him, and he couldn't have been nicer, he took a lot of extra time to get the paintings just right. I think it's only a matter of time before he gets bigger.

I like his stuff as well. I first saw his stuff on the walls of a boba cafe in west LA on sawtelle street and looked him up, this was like 4-5 years ago. I think he must have known the owners because the whole place was decorated by him. It's now closed down...

I believe this is his blog.

Do you have pic of your commission?

Here is the commission, it is the first one is me and the next my wife. Each of them is about 6X8 and gouche on wood panel. Originally I was going to have him do some of the matchbox paintings he does, but then I decided just to have him do 2 small paintings. The third one is one I picked up at a group show at Anno Domini in San Jose.

i like how how he does the noses!

benvan,I really like this artist . I especially like the 3rd one down, it has a lot of movement to to piece and the way he has followed the form with his brushstrokes in different shades of gray around the figure it makes the figure pop out off the page and is very "gesturie" . I also like in the 2nd and 5th pieces the in way he lightens up the faces and makes it almost appear as a spot light is on some of their faces to draw your eye in to them. Thx for showing them to us

Andrew has a big show coming up at the Roq in February 09. He's working on a very cohesive theme and his work seems to have jumped up a notch.

I think he is talented, . . .but the noses, . . .I've seen too many artists do that separation with the noses, . . .Chris Ryniak, Dave Chung, come to mind, . . .so does Lee Marvin's character from his oscar winning performance in Cat Ballou 1965, . . .or maybe it's my disdain for those nose and glasses props used by comedians in the 20th century, . . .either way, it's a distraction from the finer qualities of his work. just a pet peeve really.

his work is good, . . .I'm curious what his new stuff looks like.

Sounds like he will doing a lot more of these matchbox paintings for his upcoming show at Roq La Rue. Framing multiple ones in the same frame like this one here. Always have loved these.

I just posted a little writeup about Andrew at my blog, and will have an interview with him as well sometime next month.

Also, Kirsten just posted a sneak peek at Andrew's next show, which is opening on February 13th at Roq la Rue.

I had seen this video before, but after looking for more information about it I saw that Andrew had done some character design for it. Watching it now its totally noticeable and I'm surprised I hadn't put the two together earlier.
