i know that flipping is unavoidable. especially when there's a demand.
but it still makes me sad when people purchase art and prints for the purpose of making profit.
when i make a piece, its very pure and personal.
i put in a substantial amount of my time and energy and love and effort.
and for someone to take advantage of that,
and attempt to make profit from it (in a sneaky sort of way), feels very strange to me.

yes. the art world involves business. business means money. and money can get shady at times.
but i would still like to believe that there is some sense of respect and understanding between the artist and galleries and buyers.

im not demanding my share/cut.
i just wish there wasnt this side business going on involving my work.
the idea of my pieces circulating without my knowledge makes me sad.
(oh~ my poor little girls...)

honestly, i feel a bit jaded.
it makes me feel like i really need to be cautious with who i get involved with.

oh~ how money does such strange little things to people~~. :(

poor audrey. from her "other" blog
http://baibai-matane.livejournal.com/

sorry to start off the thread of one of my favorite artists on a sour note. but at least it can only get better after this post :)

hmmm...i wonder what happened to make audrey so upset! i feel like most people buy audrey's work because they really love it, but they decide to sell later when they realize how much of a profit they can make on it. although i adore the pieces of hers i own, the amount of money i could get for them has made me stop and think about selling a few times. i still don't think i could bring myself to that though. :P her market is crazy right now. she'll probably have to raise her prices a lot more to prevent flipping.

I can't sympathize with that statement until she:

1. goes punk and stops doing gallery shows
2. then does a commission for me well below her current prices

Haha
I think she could do print releases like the one where everyone who wanted one signed up. I am sure that would help to deter flippers. Or are those pieces still going for flipper prices?

this is a picture audrey took of some paintings she planned for the copronason show that just passed

noticed this a while back... just thought it was interesting

Audrey told me this never made it to the show because she just wasn't feeling it anymore...

"this happens pretty often lately.
where i will start and spend hours on the drawing,
and then later realize i have no desire to paint it."

Interesting. At least it shows that she has some artistic principles. She won't put out work that she doesn't feel is adequate. Of course I think I can say that most fans would have loved that piece if she had decided to sell/finish it.
