I made a little flyer for the show for my website. This is the piece I did for Gino's show.

Just as a heads up, Gino is also making a box set of prints that will be available that night. I think some will also be available online for out-of-towners. The edition is 50 and the 13 artists are:
Cathie Bleck Nicoletta Ceccoli Andy Kehoe Ana Bagayan Lola Bob Dob Johnny "KMNDZ" Rodriguez Brian Despain Glenn Barr Mia Naoto Hattori Yosuke Ueno + 1 Surprise
I saw the proofs last week and they all look amazing. I especially liked Nicoletta and Lola's pieces!

I happened to be on their website the other day and saw a sneak peak of the actual show for about 5 minutes. must have been setting it up at the exact same time I was on. was only able to click on a few thumbnails before it was gone but from what I saw the show looks great!

It seems the show title is a also a subtle - or not so subtle - nod to the fact around half of these pieces have moved and shaked their way in and out of galleries at previous shows. Some of the leftovers date all the way back to 2007. Luckily unsold art never goes bad. Or does it? Perhaps a shelf life should be assigned and tin's burn if unsold practice should be employed if it three unsold strikes are achieved? I truly hope the curator was made aware of their leftover status prior to submission.
The Soto is great though! A nice departure from his RAM imagery and a return - of sorts - to his roots.

I believe this show was a bit last-minute... Group shows, especially one of this magnitude, usually take about 6 months to organize and this one was scheduled just a couple of months ago.
It's a good opportunity for those who frequent just one or two galleries to see work in person from a wide range of artists. Though some of the work has been shown before, I would say it's mostly pretty strong, nonetheless. As some of these artists become more popular, their "leftovers" will disappear quite quickly, so it's worthwhile to keep in mind that there are myriad reasons why painting might not sell at its initial unveiling... and its quality often has nothing to do with it.
I'm quite sure Gino is quite aware of what he's getting. He's been hanging around the scene here long enough to know what's what.

I was wondering if some of those pieces I had actually seen before or if I was just imagining it.
That is an interesting question though. What should you do with old work or work that doesn't sell? I think burning it is a little extreme. I normally let them stand around my room or end up giving them to family or friends. I would feel way too weird putting it into another show. I feel like shows should be for new work.

Indeed there was not a long lead time for this show. I think Gino was wise saying older works were fine rather than have the artist not represent. And all the work is strong so its not a problem.
I think there is probably an opening for a show specifically using pieces from previous shows. I mean its only the big guns that sell out on opening night.. The rest of us have a pile in the corner of our studio...
Generally I agree though using a piece in a show a second time feels wierd. I think thats what website stores are good for...

I agree. I have only curated a few shows so far, but I have encountered artists that want to make a fresh piece but due to time restraints and life just happening they need to submit an older work or not be in the show at all.
So I make it a point to have a lot of fresh work from other artists. The upcoming show "This is the End" has a few pieces people have surely seen, but I am mos excited about the work from lesser known artists in the show

For many it's a treat to see in person so many of their favorite artist work in one show even if some works have been shown before.

I checked out the show Saturday night- I think it was one of the best group shows I've seen in a while. I was kind of surprised to see a few pieces that I'd seen before though, but that didn't take anything away from the show for me.
