Agree with you there Sven, for me his best pieces are the less macabre ones, i love the bird sketch form his latest show at inop, and wild boar, thought both were great little sketches. That fox piece is (IMO) the best i've seen from him, lets hope it continues along this route, perhaps with some colour!

I think it's nice that he didn't continue his "dead animal run" down there, but maybe was showing more the "positive side" of creating a piece of art that contributes to you everyday surroundings (in a positive way).

ROA
Paradox

Australian Opening 21 October, 6pm

Skalitzers Contemporary Art and FORM are proud to present the first Australian exhibition of ROA.

A modern day naturalist, famous for his large-scale depictions of animals on city walls around the world, ROA moves between continents and cities, observing and documenting the creatures that co-inhabit the urban landscape.

In the lead up to his exhibition in Perth, FORM and Skalitzers have hosted ROA on a journey to the Pilbara, South West and Rottnest Island. ROA will draw on this experience to create his first Australian body of work.

Please join us at FORM Gallery with the artist for opening night

The exhibition runs from the 22nd October, 2011 until 13th January, 2012.

FORM Gallery, 357 Murray St, Perth.

the preview for his Australian out, and it looks GREAT!..

it looks like ROA chose to introduce himself to Aussies with his famous bigger installation pieces, mostly showing local animals (Platypus, Quokka, Bilby, Echindna, Possum).. and he did a great job there!..

Im wondering how many things will sale, cause only 6 pieces are smaller, and wont cost a fortune to send them outside Australia..

I looked through the preview catalog, and agree, Sal, that the bigger pieces are mouth dropping, but very, very expensive even without shipping. Would love to have one ...

I really like how he brings his animals into a gallery space. It would be great if he put out some screenprints, I think his painting style would translate really well.
