That's a pretty ugly looking place! And I really don't like those Shep canvases... This, however, is awesome!

All that money and he only got a standard Banksy is that not a silver one? I think you are right, although I was expecting the white hand finished version

is that not a silver one? I think it's a "queue jumper" gray actually. Those Fairey canvases look ridiculous on a wall even if they are of his "heroes." And is there anything weird about putting on shows so you can buy work from those shows, on the cheap, and making it appear a sellout show or that the work is in demand when it's really you buying a lot of the work? I don't believe there were ulterior motives in buying those canvases, since he had them on hold for himself from the very beginning. I'm not defending the way that show was sold, as it was a complete clusterfuck, but there was certainly no need to create artificial demand.

That's a pretty ugly looking place! And I really don't like those Shep canvases... This, however, is awesome! I could be wrong but I believe that was from another collection she visited, not Deitch's.

This does happen of course, but i guess it goes with the territory of being a collector as well as a curator and gallerist. is it bad for a gallery owner to buy work and take advantage of his rather unique position to obtain work at 50% off? no. is it bad for a gallery owner to buy work with the intention of generating hype to say a show has sold out? probably yes. i don't think shep fairey needs any more hype than he already gets, and for that show, deitch didn't need to buy those ppieces to hype anything - so i'd say there is no conflict of interest or hiding the sausage going on here. I am aware of a couple of galleries that do this regularly though to make their shows appear sold heavier than it actually did. As a curator / gallery owner you wouldn't be putting on shows with artists whose work doesn't somehow excite you or you wouldn't endorse / support..... he has some wonderful pieces, as you'd expect. I particularly like the fold painting and the kembra pfahler pieces.

-remember, shep now does 3 each of his canvases. the Haring canvas is different from the May Day show and the Basquiat is the same. ec

I liked the Auerbach. But it does make me feel better about my ho hum pad, which I'm antsy to upgrade.

I came into this thread to post about Pharrell Williams but you beat me to it. If I could get my hands on anyone’s collection it’d definitely be Pharrell Williams Kaws collection. His white giant chum is my dream piece and all the other Kaws goodies would definitely be a nice bonus.

Pretty sure that Kaws is from Lance Armstrong's collection, or at least was part of the Livestrong show a couple of years back.
