Has anyone checked out his work? I stopped by Rachel Uffner today to have a look and was quite impressed. I really liked the juxtaposition of organic and inorganic materials (found wood / tinting film) and the dichotomy created between painting and sculpture. Pretty cool. Looks like he has a show coming up at Halsey McKay next month, should be a good one. www.halseymckay.com/graham-collins

Different style - nice work. He and Sam Moyer both have their BFA from Corcoran College of Art in D.C.

I was also incorrect about the show being next month, it actually opens this Saturday. If prices are in line with the Rachel Uffner show they will be very reasonable. Definitely considering.

Between $2,000-$5,500 roughly... The larger ones being around 5.5" tallish. Even the smaller ones feel pretty substantial. Would love a big guy though.

A piece from his newer shaped canvas series: I like the tinted glass works, but not the shaped canvases. This is where I find it the hardest to decide whether or not to collect an artist. The first series is a hit for me, but the second a miss. Hard to know whether the artist has any more great ideas or not. Even if works were readily available I wouldn't be able to step in now. But if only the first series was currently being produced I would be more willing to collect not knowing what's coming next. Maybe I am second-guessing the artists too much? Or maybe I would be more forgiving of an artist's mis-step (my opinion) if I were already invested in their work. At the same time I don't want an artist repeating the same series over and over so I guess there has to be room on the collector's part for less than great series especially with younger artists.

I am not a fan of this new series, and also had questions about it.
Given the Visual Artists Rights Act, and the protections of moral rights extended to artists, what would stop the original painter of these 'found and cut-up' works from demanding their destruction?
Now, I understand the likelihood of the original artist of some flea market/junk store painting coming forward to do so is slim, but it does exists, yes?

Now, I understand the likelihood of the original artist of some flea market/junk store painting coming forward to do so is slim, but it does exists, yes? About the artists rights, I think that it depends on the age of the painting and if the the original painter is still alive or not. After a certain number of years, the rights should be not working anymore. I think. Or, maybe, Graham has an agreement with the original painter. Anyway I think this series is not strong as the first one. But I would take more time before express a final opinion, because with the first series my first feeling was not good and it took a few months before I understood them, both in therms of aesthetics and concept. Is collaboration with Viner seems a very good step looking at his cv, and there will be a museum exhibition in Italy the next month, with some exciting artists. Definetively some good stuff coming. Let's see.
