Love the new theme for his show "Voyeur." When I first saw his work I thought it was too simple but it has really grown on me. We up a little interview/preview here. if you are interested along with more pieces.

ive always been drawn to his use of simple graphic lines, pops of color, and his signature scratchy backgrounds.... in fact, shag was probably the first "lowbrow" artist i got into back in the 1990's at la luz shows. my ex, owns one of the largest shag collections, having purchased pieces from him direct before he showed publically. oh, the days where you could purchase an original for $400!!! i do have one "original" a shag designed logo for my old candle company! (blurry pic, but you get the idea)

Thanks for the great pictures Tan. It's sometimes difficult to capture in photos the great color and contrast in his paintings. Shag has always been one of my favorites. The contrast and vibrant colors he uses bring his paintings to life despite how simple they may seem. The situations he places his characters in always prevoke thought. Heres a photo of one of the Shags I have. I believe it depicts a scene from the movie The Valley of the Dolls "Orange Pills".

I can't post the image (still working that out, tried below) but he did this really mean painting of Williams as an old coot with a hate list as Death taps his finger behind Williams as an invalid in a wheel chair. All this in the show that Williams himself instigated and got Shag in in the first place. That dropped him off my radar... www.sourharvest.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/DSCN4745-Medium.JPG[/img]

I'm very curious too. Looking at the image i'd interpret it as nothing more than saying the artist is going to keep painting right up until the moment death takes him (even making death wait in this case).
I don't see anything mean about it. But then again I also don't get the "hate list" comment. Is that supposed to be the thing in the corner of the painting? If so I can't read it.

We need to find the title of the painting. I think it is an old Juxtapoz ( I will look after work). If I remember correctly, it is titled as a Williams painting of old with the 3 separate titles. The titles makes it perfectly clear this is no ode to a genius but an attack, imho.

I recall Mr. Wms was a bit pissed off about this painting and it was about to be removed from the show before it was purchased.
