Hello Everyone, long time reader first time poster/ registerer-erer
First off, Id like to say sorry if this is in the wrong section, please feel free to move it if needs be.
I am in the process of doing some research for both myself and an artist friend(a known name who is a little disconnected from the gallery scene) which is basically trying to find the prices for artists works within the contemporary lowbrow/pop surrealism area (with the intention of being able to price works with a little more understanding of the present market framework of similar artists)
What would be perfect is to find out how much artist x's work went for in early shows (possibly when they were unknown even) and as they grew over the years, and for what type of work e.g. small piece, large piece, sketch/prelim, print, limited print etc.
I have been scouring this site for pricing information, and it has been useful, but its a very time consuming process. It would be wonderful if someone who is well-informed/knows their stuff could help me out with a bit of insider knowledge to this mysterious world.
Equally, any information as to why, say a certain artists' works jumped in price would be great- a little conjecture on popularity/marketing perhaps...
Anything sensitive/ you dont want to say in a public forum, feel free to pm me please.
Any resources I dont know about would be great as well. currently I have been getting my information by emailing galleries (again time consuming) and off this site, and expressobeans. If there are any other handy sites, again that would be a great help.
The area/ field of artists I am researching is the following:
ashley wood
Kent williams
James Jean
Steve Huston
Eric fortune
Martin Wittfooth
Esao Andrews
Mark ryden
jeremy geddes
soey milk
that sort of ballpark. So, leaning away from more abstract stuff and graffiti and more towards the illustrator turned fine artist stuff. I hope that makes sense!
Thanks so much for any input guys, all the best
