Since there is already a music thread I think we should also have a film thread... What is your favourite/most hated movie, or did you recently discover some older film for yourself? Feel free to pass on the love and hate. My favourite film is "Barry Lyndon" which I think is one of Stanley Kubricks lesser known films (to me he is the genius of film anyway). It is so beautiful and perfect in every single aspect. And some stills look like paintings from the great masters: A classic film I recently discovered is "Withnail and I" (British film from 1987) about two unemployed actors who enjoy a strange weekend in the English countryside. Weird, but hilarious - and a lot of alcohol. There is apparently a drinking game along with the film where you match your drinks with those of the actors, but I wouldn't recommend it unless you are out for some alcohol poisoning. Since I would watch almost anything I find it hard to consider a film "bad", because most films don't claim to be future classics anyway, they just want to entertain you for two hours. A film I really hated though was "The Ninth Gate" from Roman Polanski, starring Johnny Depp. So much talent wasted. Other films just make me laugh for two hours, although they are not actually designed as comedies. "The Core" is my favourite "bad" movie of all times, and when I watched it the last time I found out that the male protagonist is called "Dr. Josh Keyes". ;D And I could not bring myself to like "Lord of the Rings". I always felt I'll have to laugh out loud any moment. My friends hate me for that, as I almost ruined our DVD evening.

Saw Ironman yesterday. Pretty good I would say. They didn't overdo the CGI like those transformer robots...
Thinking of seeing Harold and Kumar...does anyone know if it was any good?

I sadly own about 1500 dvd's and would say the ones purchased in the last year have not yet been watched ( Transformers being still in the shrink wrap ). I would say my movie taste may differ from the boards. I would recomend Neighbors. it is a comedy from the early 80's
also Happiness, Scotsdale P.A, and just watched " I want someone to eat cheese with "

My favorite film of last year was Cronenberg's Eastern Promises, which was very layered and intriguing. Viggo Mortensen gives an intense, nuanced performance in an extremely complex role, and he should have gotten the Oscar for it. This year, I really loved Wong Kar-Wai's My Blueberry Nights, which is not completely flawless but has moments of gorgeousness and truth nonetheless. These are my all-time favorites, in order of release: The Philadelphia Story Out of the Past The Night of the Hunter The Man Who Fell To Earth Alien Blade Runner Brainstorm The Dead Zone Brazil Wings of Desire My Neighbor Totoro Edward Scissorhands Jacob's Ladder The Professional The City of Lost Children 12 Monkeys Grosse Pointe Blank Babe: Pig in the City Zero Effect The Iron Giant Run Lola Run Amelie The Triplets of Belleville Hellboy Brokeback MountainThree movies that I really hated were Scent of a Woman (believe it or not, I was forced to watch it about 12 times in one three-week period – ugh), K-Pax (possibly the stupidest ending ever filmed) and Tristram Shandy (contrived and boring).

I love the films of Wong Kar-Wei (especially In the Mood for Love) but haven't seen his latest one. Commandax, your favourites list contains a lot of my personal favourites too, although there are also some films I haven't seen. I will definitely have to check them out, since your taste is similar to mine. Brazil and 12 Monkeys are two of my all time-favourites. I am excited about Gilliam's next film The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus as I was afraid it would be cancelled, just like The Man from La Mancha, which could have been such a terrific movie.

Anyone see Penelope. My wife took the kids and came back to tell me she saw Ryden paintings hanging in some of the sets.

I should be asleep but the killing fields has just come on and I had forgotten what an absolutely stunning, heartbreaking film it is.

Usually dislike zombie films but this one looks pretty damn funny. (and it has Woody Harrelson) Yeh looking forward to seeing that one. Looks great. This one looks good as well, another zombie comedy like Shaun of the Dead. www.doghousethemovie.com/

Whoa... Tron is back... that's the OG Matrix... Anyone played the arcade game? I loved the cycles! Hah! One of my favorite old school arcade games as well. I recently cracked out on one in Portland for several days. They have a great old school arcade called Ground Control or something like that and they even serve beers! Hadn't heard about this movie until just now, but I'm excited about it.........
