An explanation about the Walker Toy that never got made… My brother posted this image of my vinyl toy design, "The Walker" (yes, it is the toy that never was!)... and we got a lot of response and requests to use Kickstarter to finally get them made. I don't think that will happen, but here's some background info if you were not following the very new toy scene in the early 2000's… So The Walker is from 2003 or 2004, and was a project I worked on with Critterbox. We really only got to the concept/prototype stage, though I had already designed different colorways and the packaging. The Walker proved to be tough to build, and would have been very expensive for retail (possibly over $300). I believe with the spikes there were 100+ parts. The paint roller was to made of metal and really rolled (roller was sponge material), the arms and legs were poseable, the driver was poseable and could come out of the cockpit, there was a ton of detail painted on (rust, bolts, wear and tear)... The clear canopy was particularly expensive to tool because it had to be pretty thin. The toy was big and heavy too. We had production problems with the prototypes. I was picky and so was Critterbox, we wanted this thing to be the best toy made in the vinyl toy scene. I got busy though, and Critterbox folded at some point and the toy was never made. We tried to revive it a few times, but let's just say I don't think this version of the Walker will ever be put into production. I own the design copyright but not the sculpt which is owned by Critterbox, so to revive it would be to redesign it completely. And though I think it's a fun design, I'm on to other things these days. The Walker, legendary toy that never was....
