been really getting into jasons work lately. i enjoyed talking to him at josh keyes' show in denver recently. got to see some work in person too, which totally sold me on him. some of his new work is laser etched and it looks so clean. seems to compliment the gel transfer process he uses well. i wonder if he will be releasing more of his hand drawn work in the future too? i'd be interested to hear if anyone has any of his pieces they'd be into selling or trading.

is this really considered "contemporary art" ? every piece looks the exact same. at first I thought it was alright but after 12 of the same laser cut pieces with a minor change, things have gotten stale like week old french bread.

Oh I don't know, I quite like them myself. Although I would prefer they were hand drawn as opposed to laser cut.

I agree droow. It would make them so much more unique and they would have a personal touch. The laser cut stuff can be done by most anyone. As I said, I contemplated him for awhile, but there seems to be not real progress in the work. Hopefully he does mix it up somehow.

must admit, that i do think that some of his pieces can look similar, but when you consider mark making in the genre, his work is instantly identifyable as his alone. i'm enjoying the new work more so than before - less busy and more refined - especially in terms of the negative space he uses. i would like to see some newer landscape pieces though, just to see how how he has evolved in that arena too.
i put this thread here rizza as i don't particularly think his work fits the 'low-brow' tag... contemporary is used for any artist making work 'in the now'. i thought this was the best fit...

I do not think it is lowbrow at all. I was just kind of questioning what it really is. Obviously "work in the now". Landscapes or something else in the pieces would be cool. Just trying to constructively get an opinion on this artist. Like you said, he is unique, but there is a lot that looks like a hand never really touched it and it sure is not conceptually breaking any ground. easy on the eye, just not sure how I would feel about seeing 20 or so very similar pieces in the same space. any thoughts on this one....kinda like out of all of them actually

New show next month at DBS. All the work is either drawn or painted - no transfers or laser etching this time around. looks good from what i've seen.

This really looks interesting. Thanks for posting and the AM coverage sleepy. Can someone maybe give a rough estimate on the price range his works are going for?
