A couple images from his new show. Arrested Motion (AM): Can you pick one of your 10 pieces from this upcoming exhibit and give us a little insight on the ideas behind it? Matt Dangler (MD): Well the piece that is promoting the show right now: “Mysterium Tremendum,” has a lot of metaphorical imagery. I usually do not like to give the viewer a clear answer like a punch line in a joke, sometimes that effect works if the piece is clearly meant to be humorous and I feel the detail or facial expression of a character could hold enough interest… but usually I want to create a story or mystery behind a character or environment, where the viewer can use their own imagination to bring my paintings to life. The piece “Mysterium Tremendum” is more like a diary entry for myself… First off, the title “Mysterium Tremendum” means the tremendous mystery, it is a holy and appropriate fear of God, or “to name the fascinating mystery that was the object common to all forms of religious experience.” Check out the rest of our interview with Matt here.

That second one looks like Steven Colbert. Ha! That's hilarious! When I first saw this image, the facial dynamic and expression looked so reminiscent of someone. But at the time, I couldn't place it. It totally is Colbert. Too funny!

Yeah, he's doing great.... running a little low on jelly though.... actually, by the look of him, I'd say he's just about had his fill! HAha... oh man... nothing like stoned looking 3rd cousin chipmunk koalas that are addicted to jelly. I might have another one in my December show @ M Modern. - Chictoday is exclusively online. I think there is a website that hard bound's any articles you find online and want hard copies of. Not sure of the web address at the moment I will have to get back to you on that. Seems like it could be pricey but I will do some research, I am interested in it myself. Thanks for asking - Matt how long did this painting take you? I LOVE this little guy, he is really "bad ass"!

I see Matt is finally starting to really incorporate more realism into his work, ala the big piece at his last solo show. I know he has been meaning to do this for awhile. Hopefully it will spice things up a bit.

Greetings gentlemen... and gentlewomen. I indeed am incorporating more realism into my work. In fact I have an entirely new technique that's been in the works for quite some time behind the scenes... adding textured surfaces and some other new tricks. Rizza, we had talked about breaking into a new direction for quite some time... my next show Sept. 5th @ Copro Gallery will reveal where my work is going. This next show is a really important one for me... I'm hoping you all will feel comfortable and motivated enough to share some feedback when all the work is displayed. Thanks for your continued interest and support - Can't wait to see!
