this should get interesting, sin, are you sure you want to do this? I've never dealt with that gallery before and don't know too much about them but I'd be worried that some sleazy lawyer could come after you. Might even end up on Judge Judy.
Highbrow, sorry about your situation. I hate to see people taken advantage of, I hope it works out.
I was in a similar situation twice with a gallery. I waited for months for a piece to get shipped, inquired several times with no response and found out that art was hanging on the wall of the gallery owners house! In another incident, that same gallery wouldn't send me an invoice for a very expensive piece after MANY requests (always keep sales receipts for insurance).
The way I resolved both of these was to email the the artists and tell them about it. In both cases the matter was resolved within a day. Artists care about the people buying their product!
I've never bought anything from that gallery since then, just because.

Sin, I dont want you to catch any flack for this I would gladly place in my name so you do not get any headache of it, I am in the process of sending you a number of emails and screen shots regarding this. Also Sin I will send you the entire story to make it easier as well.
Oldfart I have contacted Nate and have an email back from him which reads he has been getting vague responses from the gallery and in the future will be handing more things himself so I am thrilled to see Nate at a group show and hope he does start handing more himself.

Not worried. This kind of stuff is old hat for me. Its time that there is some collective voice.

now that i have a moment to post.
not worried as every industry has a complaint site / ratings site there is a canyon between slander, libel and reviews.
user generated content that is reasnably vetted gives me all the distance i need
there are too many good galleries to let bad ones put the screws to collectors and artists without putting the bad ones on notice.

Hey there, I just joined this forum due to this topic, i've worked with LBP as an artist and had a bad experience. It's worth noting artists i've spoken to in the same position as I was warned me that they are highly litigious where publically speaking about the problems or mentioning names was concerned....Specifically one artist was sent a cease and desist, told to remove all mention of LB from her FB/Blog etc, she of course was frightened, unable to cover costs of any kind of legal action, so she did as she was told.
I did at one point consider writing about my experience by simply making public a list of emails dating back to the start of the problem up till now. In a nutshell, a painting of mine (Fox Confessor) was sent to LBP back in June 2010. A short while later I started being represented by Thinkspace and told LBP that since location was so close I couldn't show with them. I asked either for the painting to be returned to me or walked (2 doors down) to Thinkspace. Begin 3 years of emails back and forth. I was told at various times - that it was sold, (also a collector was told they had already sold it), that they were waiting for payment on it, that it was 'in the back somewhere'. I eventually gave up, and wrote it off as a loss...i'm in the UK so I didn't know what I could do legally to retrieve it.
Out of the blue, about a month ago, Christine at LBP got in touch and said 'I found a painting of yours in storage, do you want it back?'. I didn't count my chickens, but a week later it arrived. So, thanks to Christine.
I wasn't paid for an edition of prints I did through Paper Tiger either....
If you ask around artists you'll find LBP either comes up as a great help to them, or they have a bad time of it. I just happened to be in the latter camp. It's a real shame, they show great artists and they have an amazing space to do it in.

ljc amazing story , still to this day even with the email from beau saying he shipped my print nothing, at this point I will be filing a small claims court case for the amount of the items in the coming weeks. I am happy to see some of thier artists showing in other galleries.

This is upsetting to hear, as I like a lot of the work coming out of LBP. I'm glad artists are speaking out though. I sure hope the gallery gets their shit together or these artists find better representation.

Sadly Mary from Gallery 618 gave me the run around regarding a piece she wanted to buy from me. I contacted her via email , she inquired about images, i sent them, she inquired about pricing I told her what I wanted for the work, she agreed it was a fair price and asked if I could hold off till Tuesday (seeing gallery closed on Sunday, Monday I agreed ), then a follow up email asking again if i was going to hold the work for her. I called the gallery just before closing, spoke with a man who said he would be seeing Mary in about an hour, left my cell phone and he assured me I would here from her this evening. I did not, I sent an email on Monday letting her know I would contact her on Tuesday to finish the transaction. I emailed on Tuesday with no reply, called at about 3pm and was told she was with a client and would phone me back, I tried one more time at 6 just before gallery closing and was told same thing. I emailed tuesday again with no reply, called Wednesday in the morning and was told she was not in but the man said he would call her and have her call me. Finally this morning I called and again she was with a client so i informed the man who answered there was no reason to contact me back regarding her purchasing the work, as I have left 5 verbal messages and 4 emails none of which was returned in any manor. My true thinking is she tried to hustle the work over the weekend hoping for a quick profit and was unable to do so , thus backing out completely. Sad part is someone told me they had a 4ft come in and i was hunting one, but I will gladly find my business elsewhere. Only dealing I have ever had with the gallery , but lack of return when interested was expressed by gallery seems all out odd.

While your situation is a pain in the ass, Highbrow, it just sounds like an avg day in sales. Don't sweat it. Just part of selling. You should send her a link to the banksy forum, she would fit in well.

And this whole, let's destroy a gallery's image website, is going too far IMO.

Review sites are nothing new. It's about time the art world got taken down a peg. There is nothing about what we buy / sell that gives these business the right to provide poor customer service. Review sites lead to better customer experience and lead to breaking down antiquated agent models that thrive on anti customer policies. Worse still it would seem the suppliers get fucked by the agents as well and when both your suppliers and consumers are misused prepare for the backlash.
I haven't been free to complete the 1.0 development but its on my agenda. If it ruffles some feathers so be it. I hope it works to hightlight the good, encourage the mediocre and punish the bad.

Changing it up from the recent bad experiences.... I had a great experience buying a piece from Roberts & Tilton. Quick replies to my questions. Overnight shipping. Packaging was perfecct. Price was very fair. Bennet is a great guy to deal with. I would recommend them to anyone.

It is all depends on what you are looking to have, I love to have art that is limited and fit my style, rather then just collectables
