here are some pocket camera photos from the opening: for this show Chris took Amsterdam's biggest symbols and landmarks, and placed them into his own time and space.. it is hard to tell if time is past or future, but it is certainly not present.. with known parts of the city being covered in layers of mist, blur, clouds, drops, hot air baloons, lanterns, and raging storms, he added a whole new dimension to this exciting place.. and as far as I could tell, the local art appreciators LOVED it!.. this body of work seems almost like an amazing series of postcards, showcasing Amsterdam's famous parts and moments, both from it's reality, and Chris' incredible imagination.. while parts of the images are incredibly realistic and detailed (impossible to be described or captured on camera), his signature elements such as objects in/out of focus, unique color palette, amazing light effects, and characters such as polar bears, toucans, or flocks of bird, are giving them that irresistible Berens feeling.. if you're visiting Amsterdam before 20th of May, I'd stronly suggest you to see this show before, AND after you get to know the town...

Awesome, I wish I could go, but it's a bit too far. Thanks for the photos, they give much more depth than the digital scans that are on the website.

Thanks for the photos, Sal.
I must admit, I appreciate Berens´ obvious talent but I was a bit dissapointed with this show. His show at Roq La Rue was pure magic, amazing iconic pieces.
I find this show to be very complex meaning that I am having a hard time differing one piece from another. If I had the funds and wanted to buy I wouldn´t know which piece to buy to be honest.

the showcards and the poster are now signed AND sketched by Chris (photo above), and Im gonna do my best to send them out by the end of the week/early next week... Origo, if you saw the works in person, Im sure you'd be able to pick your favorites.. my picks would definitely be Storm Raging Through Oudezijdskolk or Cloud over Nieuwmarkt, from the smaller pieces, and Necropolis Amsterdyke from the bigger pieces.. this show is a bit different cause this time the major motifs are real, but enriched with stuff that Chris always saw or imagined around them.. also, I must say I quite like it that every show he does has a bit different feel to it.. just shows how much more Chris has to share with the world..
