Of course it's always too early when anyone passes away. Being an art lover I think there is an extra sting when someone so talented goes. During the past few years a few up and comers passed away, here is just a little sample of the work they made. John Waterson, an insanely talented artist out of New Zealand. It's hard to imagine what his work would be like later on in the years, I mean look at it right now, he hadn't even really showed in galleries if I am correct. "Angel With An Apple" "Samantha" "Girl with a Notebook" "Sophie" His Rembrandt study, blows me away Phoebe Washer Artist out of Petaluma. I really love her work. These are all also prints that are available. She completed a huge amount of work.

Hey great topic... Don't know of any myself probably since I'm relatively new to collecting but I have had some unwelcome thoughts on the subject. Especially with those artists with known drug "problems." I have often wondered at what point does an artist's death make their work more sought after? I assume that if they aren't famous enough, they just get forgotten... But once they reach that tipping point, if they died it would actually make them more famous.

"Angel With An Apple" Thecreep you don't know how happy I am you posted this. When I started really getting in to art last year I found John's work on a website. I instantly was blown away by the images , If you know my love for Ryden's stuff you'll easily understand why. I bookmarked the page and went back occasionally to look. Unfortunately my computer crashed and I lost everything (bookmarks,images...) . With all the other artists that I was fond of and who's names I could remember John's was forgotten. For the life of me I couldn't remember his last name. I was even thinking about starting a post on this board not to long ago. It bothered me up until now. He was great and he won't be forgotten by me ever again. Thanks.

Yeh I think in cases like John Waterson's, his art is kept alive by the few that know of it, but no fame comes to him. It is kind of sad that some of these artists never knew how much their art affected some people. Thecreep you don't know how happy I am you posted this. Hey no problem Mute, I'm glad I could post these for you. One of the main reasons I created my art site was really just a place I could bookmark and kind of catalog art that I enjoyed. Its also nice that I am able once in a while to hook an artist up with a gallery or two. Sadly I wasn't doing this all when John was in full swing of painting, I would have loved to see his work infect the gallery scene.

I have a huge folder filled with works by John, sketches and what not. Here is a few more. This is actually a whole process for one painting. Very cool to see how he worked. The initial sketch More refined drawing The underpainting, its absolutely glowing! Mid painting close-up He actually got bored of the piece, so he just finished coloring it digitally. Still looks amazing.
