Wow, you have to believe Deitch is behind some of this...

Or a majority of it. At least it would seem to an outsider.

Paul Schimmel is one of the better curators out there. This is very unfortunate. I think MOCA has always had a great platform, just suffering from bad business plans. I think Deitch is bringing some new blood to the museum but how long it can sustain like this without a concrete long term strategy is beyond me...

thanks for the link Sleep and AM. While I am overly critical in general, I must say that I need to view this article and Deitch's stance in general with some validity. I am fully aware that the scholarly faction of the art board/trustees/established critics/et al, are less than happy with MOCA and its program.....it is 2012 and the arts and undgerground culture do play a huge role in society and shaping the future with how young people view the arts, culture, society, style, etc. IMO, this is important. I know that artists have resigned and MOCA's board is looking a mess, however, I think I am leaning towards agreeing with Mr. Rose's synopsis of the "passing of the torch" theory. Style, culture, life, things, cannot stay the same forever and they have not been. Change is evident. All of this change and celebrity coverage or whatever is not something new. It has been taking place and accepted in NYC for a few years now. The fact that it is being thrust into the forefront via a forum such as MOCA may bother some people but there is no denying that it is and has happened. I think the real move is to let it run its course and sort it out afterwards. Anyone who is trying to dictate history or style or culture or how it plays out in present time is just as guilty or even more guilty as the ones who are supporting the change. Lets just see what happens : )
