i checked out the sf art book fair today. i wanted to put a post up here to let any bay area locals know about it. tomorrow is the last day for it, but there are so many great books and ephemeral available. works by tauba auerbach, chris johanson, barry mcgee, andy warhol, keith haring, and so many others. this is the first year for the event here in san francisco. it's taking place in the minnesota street project building located at 1275 minnesota street. sunday july 24th is the last day of it; from 11am to 5pm . with over 60 venders it's an event worth checking out.

this is the reason people dislike art sales. sure, if you buy something, hang it on the walls, live with it for a few years or more, then want to sell it......that's not so bad. but to buy something, and 10 minutes after it shows up in the mail make efforts to re-sell at a huge profit, that's just smelly.

a decade of subject overlap and style similarities may not equal anyone stepping too closely on either ones territory. nothing is truly owned by anyone, nor unique. go back far enough and someone else did it before. personally speaking, i find it interesting when artists travel the same path. and having followed both of these artists for a very long time, i can spot either one from a mile away, and still like them both.

i'm a big fan of eddie martinez. but his loosening up over the years is cutting both ways for me. sometimes i think it's great, a maturing. and in this case, i'm turning my head in confusion. i'm sure these will do great. i'm sure i'm in the minority. but i have to say, the emperor sketched on these prints is wearing no clothes.

that's really good. i love when an artist, or in this case, artists, can create something so simple and have it be so powerful. especially when we've all come to expect big things from os gemeos..... quite literally big things.

i'm having a hard time believing they didn't put some kind of barrier over it to stop just this kind of thing from happening. especially with all that press the millionaire brought to it.

how do forum member feel about these early original works? i'm curious, as they're so different from anything she's producing now, or for the past several years. cheers.

hmmm......
they're good. i like the way they paint. but.... i liked the old one WAY more.
they're starting to get kinda cartoonish, and i personally am less into it. though i gotta give them props for the jade tribute. that's really great.

kinda sucks that the old one is gone. glad they're painting a new one. i saw some of their rooftop murals from this early sf trip era getting painted over when the building was being re-painted. this was forever ago, and it still makes me sad.
