im thinking "why do people bother opening a gallery and trying to sell art if they dont pickup the phone or reply to emails?"

www.cnbc.com/id/19331880/I caught this on TV the other night and found it sad to think of the many warehouses around the world stuffed full of crated art for investment purposes. If people are going to buy art but never enjoy the beauty of the pieces, why not buy something like stocks or gold?

thank you hung, it just appears maybe the larger canvas with the small bears price was a little up there it appears that way but if you are only talking size, a 30 x 40 - "Spawn" was priced at $12000 (http://www.copronason.com/lukepreview2/) in May of last year and the one you are referring to is 48 x 60, obviously with less detail but pricing is not as far off as it seems if you are talking historically in terms of size.

very true hung, detail I would think is far less, but even at 1988 show where I think the works were no as strong exploring the new ideas I thought pricing was a bit more in line as far as size and detail. all in all I am a huge fan, his dead pez work got me to this board and had I not already went Frizzell, Fariey I would have pulled the trigger on one.

How the fuck can people tolerate Buyer's Premiums? I guess the easy answer is that the only people engaging on the buying end of auctions are people with stupid money who are not savvy enough to locate the work through other avenues. Just unfortunate when there's something that actually interests you enough to get mildly serious about obtaining a bidding paddle, only to reconsider the additional 25% required on top, realize again how ridiculous it is, and return to avoiding auction houses like the plague.

i would think, depending on the demand for a work, that the premium is very negotiable. You kind of have them by the balls after the fact anyway. Take 5% or fuck off and sell it to someone else...

Just take the BP into consideration when calculating the amount you're willing to bid. If bidders remember that there is a BP (at 25%, how could they not?) and take it into account when bidding, the BP is really coming out of the seller's pocket, not the buyer's.

If a building has street art (by a major artist) on it is it worth more $$$? wasn't there an article a while back about banksy painting on the side of a corner pub or something and it was estimated the building doubled in value? at least i think i remember reading that, but banksy is probably a pretty special case. edit: found something about it news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/arts_and_culture/7702995.stm

If a building has street art (by a major artist) on it is it worth more $$$? What's your address again? There's that building around 20th & Ellsworth that has the Keith Haring mural on the side. A friend of mine told me it's listed. Not for a whole hell of a lot either...I'm thinking in the $100K range.
