Last night, I read this book, "Blink" by Malcolm Gladwell and I found this quote that may affect all of us the collectors.
"When should we trust our instincts, and when should we consciously think things through?"
It made me think about collecting art. When it comes to art benefits, we tend to support them consciously within our price range. But when it comes to shows or auctions, we go with instincts. Do you agree with this at all?
Man, this book is really good! I'd recommend this book for everyone!

I am thinking that Walton Ford is a genius. He has an exhibition here in Denmark just north of Copenhagen, totally blew me away.
Besides that I can´t wait for tuesday where my two new Wittfooth pieces will arrive.

I'm thinking I'm just flat out obsessed with Olek after he generous efforts to keep the Wall Street Charging Bull warm back in December. That was just straight up crochet guerrilla shit. Badass. But her freshest piece of a girl being lifted away by balloons up 6 stories is pretty badass too. Thought I read she's of Polish decent which makes me love her even more. Could take her home to mom and get down on some galumpkies ..though I can't stand them myself.

Gotta love Voina's recent bit of public performance art, showing some aggressive public display of affection to their female Russian police officers. Priceless.

Maybe there is a thread somewhere in here about negotiating a price for a piece with a gallery. I called a gallery inquiring about a piece and was surprised at the price jump since the artists last show (50%/psi). I let them know that I was surprised. Now, I don't want to sound like a cheap gouger, but do you think asking 15% off is too much after they got back to you to negotiate?

Absolutely not old fart. Depending on the piece, the price, the gallery and your relationship with them you could even ask for 20%. I think 15% is totally reasonable. Good luck. I'm sure it's something special.

I'm sure it's something special. I agree, personally I would start as high as possible, and then work you way down. You don't want to insult the gallery - but if it's a piece that's sitting and not selling most galleries have between 40-60% profit. Also, sometimes they will go back to the artist to see if they will lower there price too. It really depends on the artist and the gallery. But I've asked for as much as 50% off a lesser known artist and was able to negotiate the deal to get abou 40% in the end. Wow - 50% is ballsy. I like your style!

Are Andy Kehoe and Esao Andrews the same person? Long lost brothers perhaps? Doppelganger? If Andy dropped his paint brush in his studio would Esao hear it? Just a few questions that flood my mind at night...

Easy enough mistake to make. When I've seen opening pictures from shows it has always made me wonder if others made the connection or not? I kept mixing them up myself!

Gehry does residential skyrise in trademarked style, aptly dubbed "New York by Gehry". Phenomenal stuff. More details here and here.
