The detail in these looks great, i think these would be impressive to see in person.

I've been watching her stuff for a while... it's beautiful. I really need to pick a piece up one of these days.

Great painter! Was bummed when compound gallery told me she doesn't draw. That she projects photos. hearing that i question her drawing ability, but her painting ability is out of this world.

projecting photos is not unusual, . . .Norman Rockwell did that when he had close deadlines or when he wanted to experiment with angles that were impossible to work from live models. For most artists, such a procedure, is merely a time-saving thing. It still takes a certain level of skill to paint these, . . . The trick is not to be a slave to the photo reference. She makes some anatomical adjustments, . . .I'm sure.
you still have to know how to draw, to paint like that.
She holds down a fulltime artist job for American Greetings. Not easy working 40 plus hours a week and still churning out pieces for gallery shows

I lover her work. Saw it at Corey Helford a little while back. Great detail. I think the one with the lamb is my favorite.
As for the drawing...I think it would be hard to reach that level of quality painting without some serious drawing skills. I would agree that if she is using a projection, it's probably a time issue. Even if it wasn't, the ideas are her own and the paintings are amazing. I wouldn't think any less of the artist.

Chris Ryniak has two pencil-drawn portraits that Melissa did of his kids, hanging in his dining room. They're absolutely stunning. She no longer does drawing work for shows, but it's certainly not for a lack of ability.
Someone at Compound Gallery was clearly misinformed.
