This is probably a bit premature - but summarize a year in collecting/art appreciation for 2008: 1. pick your top 3 acquisitions this year (paintings; prints; customs; hell, even plush if it's super awesome! ) - If you can, please post pictures so we can appreciate the excellence with you! 2. Name your biggest disappointments 3. Best experiences 4. Rising Stars 5. Falling Stars

Mine will have to be "year-to-date" since the years not finished yet (and I want to squeek "Pirates" in). These are the 3 so far that bring me the most joy - period, irrespective of cost or difficulty to acquire. (Plus - each year we allow ourselves at least one "big" expenditure IF something really special presents itself and that certain something special is in the works as we speak and not sure if it will come to be within the calendar year - not that cost is directly proportional to the amount of joy something brings, but in this case it will happen to be an unfortunate coincidence! ) In no particular order! 1. Travis Louie's - "Bricktop" (Travis and Kirsten know why this one means so much to me). 2. Todd Schorr's - "A Pirates Treasure Dream" (pure escape!) 3. Kathie Olivas' - "Cosmic Kids pair" (pure fun!) jIm Had to throw this one in too since Tara is my favorite work of art in ANY year!

Let's add biggest disappointment (shows, missed purchases, purchase regrets) and a rising artist to watch in 2009. Top 3 purchases (so many, but narrowed it down to these three, or ones that I feel like mentioning ) For sentimental value For something I hunted down like a dog and overpaid for because I loved it Something unexpected from my favorite artist Disappointment Missing out on several Josh Keyes purchases by a hair. Artists to watch in 2009 Tin, Candice Tripp

Nice thread idea, I'll have to give it some thought. My E. White is certainly a unexpected highlight! One of my favorite paintings coming up for sale. Adding a Sorren back into the collection was great. No real let downs (art wise) to speak of, just don't get myself too upset by any of it.

Nice CRG pick up Sleepboy. I know the previous owner of that piece. I guess it made it's way back to California. Nice thread idea, I'll have to give it some thought. My E. White is certainly a unexpected highlight! Hm... I wonder if I was not supposed to post it. Methinks I will replace it with another.

Did you ever get that "special addition" to this piece or was it another one?

My personal high-light was to meet Femke Hiemstra and Fred Stonehouse. And Fred's painting Song of the Sinaloa is my favorite acquisitions. I was disappointed by some of my favorite artists, but I don't want to name them here... Rising Stars: Raudiel SaƱudo, Matt Lock, The Horror and Tat One

1. pick your top acquisition this year "untitled" by Esao Andrews (finally own an original painting by this guy!) 2. Name your biggest disappointments Was really sad when I heard that Lori Earley's stuff was stolen from Jonathan LeVine Gallery earlier this year. 3. Best experiences Being lucky enough to curate show with artists I adore each month. Can't ever express how grateful and blessed I feel for this chance. 4. Rising Stars Ewelina Ferruso ( www.ferrusos.com), Mia ( www.art-by-mia.com), Joy Ang ( www.joyang.ca) 5. Falling Stars can't really think of anyone who has fallen too hard in 2008. Andrew

Thanks. The Walker piece is from the "Pretty Decorating" show at the Carmichael Gallery. I wish I would have bought a larger piece, but at the time it was the most money I had ever spent on a piece of art. Still cringe when I remember back to Seth telling me had two other Vandal Airways pieces available.

Well, here goes: 1) Picked up a bit this year, compared to year's past, but still loving the small (5 x 7) Michael Page I got... 2) Only regrets involve not enough money, and too much hesitation...inches from an Evan B Harris commission, but moving back to the east coast nixed that one... 3) Best experience was getting to live in the bay for half the year and getting to see so much good art up close. 4) I think andy kehoe's name is gonna get out there a bit more, and Soto's new show should put him back on top of the heap...

meatbag - Congrats. A "great year" is a bit of an understatement. An insanely awesome year is more like it. By far my favorite Keyes piece (especially with the Obey nod).
