In the picture it looks like gold but if it's truly silver i would go with that. I hate gold though so if it's gold vs. black i would go with the black.

I think I agree about the black - the highlights start to become more interesting - and my eye wanders more to the image. With the silver frame, everything looks even - which some may like, but I like the hierarchy.

i thought the silver at first, but am now leaning towards the black.... that ornate frame is so imposing in silver that it detracts from the print and draws your eye away from the image. i think the frame should always embrace the image, but not overwhelm it.

I also like the black one better, as it makes the image stand out more. But it is a tough choice.

Charity -
I'd actually like the black better if it were a deep black like the background of the print - in this case, I'd go for the silver. If its to be a contrast, then make it a real contrast.
I also agree with you and Hung - I can't stand gold.

Definitely the black, it really helps the image pop. I feel like the image gets lost in the silver, the ornamentation of the frame takes precedence with this shade.

Finally getting around to framing some pieces and wanted some opinions. Normally I'm not a fan of gold, but I think it works well with this piece. Original Work: A: B: C: D: E: Open to other options as well.

Option A looks good.

i'd say that the first 4 are a bit too 'classic' to deal with such a contemporary image. i know the black is a safe bet, but it works everytime for me!

I see gold and the blue as the highlight colors in the piece - and I think they get lost if there is gold in the frame - I prefer the black as well.

Thanks for the input thus far guys. The more I look at it, the black frame definitely helps with the contrast against the coffee stained paper border and draws your eyes towards the center.

Hard to give an opinion without a visualization, so I cranked this out quickly in photoshop ... I think the silver frame works better, since it's a nice contrast with the print, and accents it nicely. For me, the black seems very overwhelming, although the print really does pop. well, i heard from the goddess herself and between Lori and Sarah, they recommended white. not sure how it would look in white but i was thrilled to get Lori's input! ;D

Thinking of framing my drawing to look like the print from PP. Might be hard to match it though since I don't see many frames with the backing on the inside made from wood... Hm...pretty close should be good enough right?

has anyone purchased mat boards and frames from americanframe.com? wondering how the quality of it is. Prices look good and just found out the staff at Michael's will assemble and tape etc everything for $5. This could be huge savings.
any other ideas for places to get frames would be great too!

americanframe is awesome. I've purchased around 10 different frames, mats, and plexiglass from them and everything was always great.

Question, has anyone ever reframed one of the black frame JLed's? I need to, but don't want to start ripping it open till I know what's under there. I've emailed JLed (his assistant) but no response.

We sometimes frame the framed art using the original frame as the inside stack. Stacking frames.
If it's a simple black frame you could easily find something to stack/frame the entire thing.

It's a pretty big, ornate frame. I need to reframe to match the two paintings, one stretched on bars and sides painted, one in this black frame. I guess I'll just open it up and see what's inside
