This aired on PBS last Monday and I missed it!! The collector's edition of this documentary will be released on December 8th. Includes an additional 7 hours (see program content below). I ordered my copy from Amazon (free shipping).
During World War II the Nazis pillaged one-fifth of all the known artworks in Europe: paintings, sculpture, furnishings, even architecture. Hitler, himself a failed painter, purged art he hated and stole art he coveted, hoping to confer legitimacy on the Third Reich. Many masterpieces were destroyed; others vanished and are still being found, repaired, and fought over today. This acclaimed documentary is based on the 1995 book by Lynn H. Nicholas.
