looks like Os Gemeos did another Flying Pig for Roger Waters' show in Sao Paolo the other night: here is the flying pig they did for him back in 2007: (via Flickr)

appears as though it was, or perhaps a piece that never made it out the back room? Based on how secretive the sales of this work were it's a bit strange to see this come forth so quickly. Maybe the twins aren't as popular with the rich crowd as they had hoped and are looking for some fresh hype. I like their work a lot, but I imagine it is not easy selling a $100k yellow cartoon character.

I can confirm that this was not at their recent showing. However, I do know that PRISM offered some canvases by the two last year, perhaps this was one of the them.

if I had to take an educated guess I would say that this was a commission that someone is now bringing to auction.

Honestly, if I was holding quality Os Gemeos I'd be selling right now. Personally, and I could be very wrong(which is why it is fun to look back at old posts after a few years) but they are my A#1 pick to experience an 'Elms Lesters'. IMO, prices are way, way outstripping reality at this time and dealership choices(word chosen purposely, you have to earn the title gallerist), studio operations, etc. do not appear to support a long-term market.
Now, back to what matters - the art itself. Really didn't like the last show. Felt slapped together, rushed, and just not the quality that I've seen from them. Expected more/better, but seems like it went over quite well overall so maybe I missed something.

The twins have been painting for 25 years, Id say thats a career which can out span most artists in this scene and they have had a gradual steady climb to the top. I would hardly call them an overnight success. Agreed the prism prices were outrageous but prisms pricing is pretty bonkers across the board anyway so i think what you are seeing here is a clear view at their market value (if a little weak what with the influx of art fairs over the last month and with it being placed strangely) The question i would like to ask though is why is this painting up for auction so soon after it was created? and who placed it? if its not been placed direct by the twins or by prism then someone must have had a stern talking to for bringing it to light so soon. I also wouldn't call that a quality os gemeos, its pretty tight but compared to these it looks a little dull

I think they have a lot going for them in the long terms besides the fact they make great art. The strength of the Brazilian economy and the fact that street art stands so strongly in their contemprary scene cant be bad for business. I cant see the same happeining as the nightmare on Elms Street.....

I have never that phrase before simococo, but i have to say that name is perfect! Whenever i ride past elms now it just reminds me of the remains of an old torture room, except one artist is still a prisoner there...

Whoever grabbed the new pieces at ArtPadSF recently over the weekend got a good deal considering that each piece is 2' by 3' and it's about half of the large painting from Phillips, I believe. Also, each piece is only a quarter of the final hammer bid! I think Os Gemeos executes well when it comes to a vast space such as museums instead of galleries simply because they can't hold the artists' humongous imagination.

I love these two's work, it keeps getting better and better for me. I'm glad they are working with some smaller canvases as well, particularly ones that are done in the character detail as of their larger pieces, as opposed to the roughness of the portraits at PRISM. Case in point - (although to be honest I like these as well) These guys can do no wrong in my book. Keep in mind too they have their ICA Museum show starting in August. I am sure this show will be one that is at the caliber we all enjoy and now expect.
