i've liked banksy's work for the longest time. probably about 6 years ago when i found his stuff. i used to look at his prints and think, '£50 for a print...nah, i like it, but for the context of which it first appeared (on the street) but never for my walls', so i never bought any. of course my thoughts now are more in line of 'if i could kick myself in the balls, i would'.

Look at the geniuses that decided to paint this over. They could have sold it for 2-3 hundred grand.

I've personally always believed it to be the guy pictured in the first picture of that story ever since reading that "expose" by the photographer on his website (which has now been taken down I believe)
The story just seemed very believable and I never heard or saw anyone that disputed it at all.

The funniest part. 'I bought the house that he used to live in,' she told us. 'He had rented out a room but I think there had been problems with the tenants and the landlord had to sort of repossess it or whatever, so he was just selling it. 'When I moved in, the place had been covered in graffiti and stuff like that. I threw things in the bin. 'At that point Banksy was just someone putting up stuff around Bristol. He was just another artist who had graffitied around Bristol. It keeps me awake at night sometimes thinking about it.' Yah, it does sound very well researched. Probably true. Everything fits.

Interesting stuff. The timing of this article just lends so much more credence to the theory that Banksy is going to make one last big splash and then bow-out. The hype-machine is definitely in overdrive. MBW movie and show as part of his finale? What a hell of a statement that would be.

Banksy in New Orleans. From Juxtapoz “As New Orleans faces another potentially destructive storm, the street artist known as Banksy has created more than a dozen murals around the city. The murals depict a variety of scenes, including Abraham Lincoln as a homeless man pushing a basket, a marching band wearing gas masks, an old man in a rocking chair with an American flag below the words ‘No Loitering,’ and a boy on a swing made out of a life preserver. According to a statement released by Banksy on Thursday, the murals were created in response to Fred Radtke, an anti-graffiti campaigner also known as the Gray Ghost, who uses gray paint to cover up graffiti. The statement also said, ‘Three years after Katrina I wanted to make a statement about the state of the clean up operation.’” Has anyone hear about this gray ghost?

I've also heard that rumor too. Dietch project is the rumored gallery that would show him. The new banksy rat above is actually on the corner of wooster and grand is which right around the corner from both Dietch gallery spaces.

Deitch has shows through 12/20 at the Wooster street (Chris Johanson then Kehinde Wiley). The space at Grand Street has shows through 12/6 (Aurel Schmidt then Elizabeth Neel). The Long Island City location has nothing listed after the Swoon & Dzine shows come down on 10/19. It could be there, the spaces are huge but Long Island City is not NYC and I would think he would want it to be in the city.

When was the last time Banksy did a gallery show? Would be very very strange if he were to do a show in a gallery.

off of gawker another potential banksy sighting, wouldn't this be tragic if this was a horrible viral campaign! In the meantime enjoy all that detail is chutney!!!!! JLG might be right since all the piece are being put up in NYC specifically in LES...I wonder if he has gone legit and has permits and shit because to put up the window washer rig and not get busted in new york is pretty rare.
