pretty intense logistics went into this. would love to hear forum members thoughts on taking these pieces from the streets out of their intended environments. not entirely positive. (ok far from positive..) I can see "a" point but not generally the point of doing it. from a purely simplistic viewpoint - an objective latterly is to make people aware of what has been done.. increase profile... blah blah.. .... formerly though the initiative is to make money - simple.. for for that reason .. alone, I'd view it as parasitic. each to their own. who am i to question what they or anyone does.... just not my ...direction. I hear the dove is still there... it attracts attention and tourists.... hey that's a positive - for those works which have been (no i'm not in favour of the H word) ... "taken from their natural habitat".. well the populace and the culture therein.. is a lesser place.... ..

i would tend to agree with the above posts as well. the works were meant for the street. it really sours the whole concept of the work when they are removed and taken to be placed into a pseudo gallery exhibition. for me they actually don't do much at all in this setting, not to mention it would be damn near impossible to display one of these properly in a home unless you had some crazy reinforced floor capable of holding tons and tons of weight and a ginormous mansion. I wonder how much they paid to be able to remove them with no worries...or if they even had to? on a different note, I am not against "saving" work from being destroyed. I don't think it is 100% alright all the time, as there is a fine line between it being saved and stolen, but if there is some iconic street piece and it is about to be destroyed and never really has a full life cycle of being in the street, then I can understand it being put in a good collection or properly on display somewhere....but not immediately freighted to NY to be sold or used as some marketing ploy to bring about attention or contribute to some other motive. obviously just my 0.02 though

Once its been placed in the street, its fair game.. meaning, if its protected first, it should be respected.. if its legally removed, then it should not hold any monetary value in the current market or ownership belongs to the property and or deed holder. Its he who'd property was vandalized ... no? its the owner who has to repaint or what have you id he doesn't care for street art or any old art for arguments sake. and then theres the artists right to say.. " I put it there for every one..." yea well, tough luck bro, people gonna do whatever they think they can do to be better than they were before... its life, its the way it is.... or how your taught in school to love thy neighbor yet society preaches kill or be killed survival of the fittest only the strong survive..... \

This picture you see was produced by Banksy on a wall in Kreuzberg Berlin as part of the Back Jumps-The live Issue festival back in 2003. The work was painted over after the event and forgotten about. Until now that is.more info here >

since no one mentioned it yet here, I thought I'd share Banksy's new piece "Shop Till You Drop": the timing for doing such piece was spot on, as it was done only week before Black Friday sales... which this year ended with people getting stabbed, or sprayed with pepper spray during shopping madness...

Great piece and well executed with even some shading. Rumours of a POW print before Xmas (not this image)

"Shop till you drop" in my mind a fantastic piece , great timing and placement. Followed up by what looks like a spur of the moment job- capturingbanksy.files.wordpress.com/2011/11/bh.jpeg?w=640&h=853Which ever way I look at this piece I dont understand it , maybe there is nothing to understand and it literally was an off the cuff effort.

cool placement, im only guessing but id say he picked that shading up from os gemeos at moca. I very much doubt he will ever claim responsability for the child piece though :-)

I dig it. Unfortunately, I haven't scored a Banksy print since Stop and Search, so I'm not holding out much hope.

Hi guys, Just back from pow. The EVOL work was very good. The installation in the middle of the room took 3 weeks to complete and lots of amazing detail on the piece. Anyway, I digress! The banksy print will be available in march 2012. Not sure yet if an old fashioned online release or a lottery or a queue. It has not been decided yet. So ignore the 20 pages of drivel on the banksy forum as no decision has been made yet.
