Maybe we all should get together as a family and purchase the cluster I would take 3 bottles ( 2 faces ) so now we just have to sell the other 97

I'm totally IN for chipping in as a family though I'd rather go for his paintings than on the bottles... In these days, many galleries sell Mcgee clusters than separately...

thanks for posting those shots and reminding me of that show gilsteph.... one of the most awe inspiring installations / shows i've ever seen. i had a camera with me but didn't take any shots as i was just looking around being blown away by everything on display. the biro drawings had me drooling. i've got a funny little story about seeing this show... i was living in nottingham at the time and i friend and i who i worked with thought that it would be a good trip out to newcastle to go and see this show and also check out the david choe show that was on across the river at the lazarides gallery. we were both pushed on time though, so decided that we would both take a day out of work and go see it, but instead of booking a day's leave we invented a 'free seminar' in newcastle that we had to go and attend. we got our company to pay for our first class train tickets up to the north east, and took the day to browse around this show, the david choe show and a few other galleries in newcastle. went and had a nice lunch at the pitcher and piano by the riverside and a couple of pints in the sunshine - and then to cap the day off, i claimed back the money for all of the food and beer on my company expenses.

Nice story, Sven. So your boss didn't actually ask you to give you a report about the "free" seminar?
;-)

Nice story, Sven. So your boss didn't actually ask you to give you a report about the "free" seminar? ;-) hehe, no. i was senior enough at that company that they didn't question anything that i did i went all over europe - holland, germany, ireland, poland, france, spain, belgium, italy on freebie trips in the name of research and marketing, not to mention all the fully paid nights out, golf days, clay shooting and track days etc. in the uk

just wanted to get some input from you mcgee fans...
what are the three qualities that you like from his work?
for me (in no particular order):
- many wonderful intricate puny details (i've met a couple of collectors who would simply rave, rave, rave about how he paints) - despondant drawing with cheery colors - urban realities
i can't get never enough of his works! do you feel that way?

Oakland Museum of California just opened its new California art collection gallery to the public yesterday so I went to check its collection and was pleased to see a nice wall installation by Barry in its collection: looks worth the trip - thanks for the heads up. (my brain keeps seeing a secret message in there but can't quite make out what it says....)

astrogirl: for some reason, my wife and i kept going back to that wall installation to figure out the secret message because that was our first question when we saw it after exploring through artworks in other rooms. i think i do see some "amaze" there especially with the letters "a," "m," and "z" there.
i may be biased, but i think this installation is one of the easily best pieces of all california art works in this gallery other than a couple of 1800s pieces.
