Failing that, does anyone have images from Mcgee's 'Widely Unknown' show in 2001 ?

yes, he signed "Barry" with 12 10 as the date. beautiful, delicate handwriting he has on the contrary to his usual, "twister" tag.

A pretty nice video of him at work getting ready for the TRANSFER show in Brazil earlier this year. I like its completed installation at the Transfer exhibition... something different and apparently, he has reached the darker, destructive abstract. not sure if that's a good sign to come or not, but i do like his dark side rather than the little cartoony style he has made recently... Anyway, here's the Barry signature... which is far different from his usual Twister tag. So eloquently beautiful signature in my opinion...

very nice gamma888. Barry has no plan for book signing in future, so it makes your book more special. Thanks for sharing!

maybe my expectations were too high for this volume being a hardback large format / coffee table affair, but i can't help but feel just a little disappointed with the new barry mcgee book.

FFor those interested in learning a little more about the THR crew that you often seen tagged by Barry, we posted up an interview with the founder here. Here is a little excerpt about Barry. Plasma: When did Barry (“Twist”) come aboard and join THR? SR-1: Circa 1989 I mentioned to Twist the THR crew thing and at some point after that he was writing it. I actually used to write SOEL around the SF metro area (mostly south of Market and I the Mission)and TWIST and I would write together sometimes. At that time, I became roommates with him near Haight Ashbury in San Francisco and I remember being out of town and coming back to find he had raided my red Marsh ink stash and had bombed around the neighborhood with fat drippy mop tags – the rest is history…

Just thought I'd share this with you:
I just saw Barry's current framer yesterday. We were discussing about Barry's works and he mentioned that Barry actually asked him to make a copy of distinctive vintage frame that he usually found from a flea market. So if a collector has older Mcgee frames, you'd notice that he'd even try to place the original frames together by himself with nails and all directly from his studio. Once he got sick of searching this certain framing as well as the amount of arduous labor, he'd ask the framer to make one for him with different finishes for his future shows.

Barry's framer has mentioned me that Barry usually worked on the frames earlier for his works. The framer recommended not to alter the original framing simply because it comes from Barry's own hands unless the framing is in a deteriorating shape. He said that he has seen many of Barry's frames and he hasn't altered many of them at all. Sometimes, he'd just do the glazing only replacing the old non-UV protection with new UV protection since many of the found frames came from flea markets where glasses are usually cheap and have no UV protection.
Hope this helps...

Thanks.. I was thinking of getting it re framed, but obviously keeping the old frame stored away somewhere. I would feel safe hanging it in the current frame

one of the rare interviews about his works at ratio 3 gallery three years ago which his white tire completely threw me off while checking his show... but after seeing the interview, i could understand his perspective about the tire...

Yes, that's Barry's work. I remember from his show in San Francisco (Giant Robot) in the 90s. It was under $500 each back then...should've picked up couple of 'em.
