I really like the direction these are going... For my taste, this is the nicest looking canvas I've seen from her yet.

I totally agree Hung-Hei, she's really hitting her stride with this new series. There's going to be a wide array of works at this show, from paper to wood to canvas, with many incorporating a more design driven element to them. More sneak peek shots posted on our Flickr here: www.flickr.com/photos/thinkspace/sets/72157618025058584/Look for more shots from the studio and an interview with Stella to be posted soon on www.sourharvest.com. Super looking forward to having her out again next month.

Some of her stuff is looking very Lucy McLauchlan-esque to me.

Not sure about that McLauchlan comparison, save for maybe some tear drop shapes showing up in a piece or two... but the show is looking very good. We'll be posting our interview with Stella in the next couple days and Andrew Ford recently interviewed her as well for Dailydujour - so that will be up in next day or two too. Looking like we'll have a very strong and diverse show for everyone next week. We'll have 7 works on canvas, around 9 smaller to medium sized works on wood, a half dozen or so works on paper and 9 or 10 wooden sculptural works + a cool installation/mural she'll be working on once she arrives into LA next Tue afternoon. Can't wait to catch up with her in person. Going to be a very fun week at the gallery as both Catherine and Hannah will be in working away and all three will be at the opening reception. Don't miss this one

Here's Stella's statement for this new body of work from the PR for the show... When I begin a painting, I don’t start with a clear idea or message. The early stages are abstract and vague and the work then develops organically as I paint. There’s no specific concept but a blurry idea I try to clarify as each layer of paint is built up. An underlying unifying theme of identities and duality seems to permeate much of my work. Identity as a human being, the frail and the strong; identity as an individual; identity in relation to others or the environment; and even dual, overlapped, confused identities. The process of creating a painting is what intrigues me most, like finding pieces of a puzzle. The figures (women) in my paintings are a vessel through which I can connect with the world. The unseen moments, the unspoken words, the indescribable emotions that permeate much of our lives… those are the elements I try to capture and represent through the figures in my work. The interviews she just completed came out killer. Very good reads, look forward to all checking them out. She has a 'Profile' piece in the new Juxtapoz hitting stands next week too.

I didnt mean for it to come across like all of them were reminding me of Lucy's work, but when I re-read my post that's exactly how I came across. Show looks great!

All good on the Lucy tip - an amazing artist for her to be compared to, don't get me wrong. Just fueling the discussion here, as there are indeed some traces here and there. Loving the softer feel of some of the new canvases. Uploaded some more sneak peeks - tons of great shots up there now: www.flickr.com/photos/thinkspace/sets/72157618025058584/ Thanks to DD, Juxtapoz and AMF for posting the interview Andrew Ford did - came out really nice. We'll be posting ours that we just got back from her over the weekend. Happy 4th of July weekend everyone!

Will all the wooden installation pieces be for sale? I take it getting onto the preview list at this point would probably be a waste of time? haha

No waste of time at all, please shoot me a mail to contact@sourharvest.com and yes, the lil' installation pieces, at this point, are planned to be in the show. No idea on pricing on these at all yet, but all is getting finalized today. The preview for the show will be going out on Wednesday. I'll post here as soon as it's ready.

There will be a great variety of work in the show, with much under the $1,000 mark, so a great chance for many to get a nice work from Stella.
There will be 7 larger canvas works (ranging from 11x14 to 16x20), a total of 6 works on paper (ranging from 4x6 to 7x9), 9 smaller works on wood panel (ranging from 4x4 to 6x11) and a collection of 10 small works on wood shapes/figures (ranging from a 1 3/4" diameter sphere to a 6" tall figure).
Working on all now, but works will range from $200 to $4,000 range with most in the lower to middle of that spectrum. As it stands now, aiming to have the preview out by Wed evening for all to review with calls following up starting on Thursday afternoon.
The previews for the shows from Catherine Brooks and Hannah Stouffer will be ready at that time as well and they are just looking beautiful.

Looks like Stella's hit her stride on this one. Looks like it'll be a good batch of imagery - with interesting presentation. Good on Stella for this one!

Her works on paper are so much better than her oil work. If anyone has her ear, it would be great to nudge her away from the oil on canvas work.

I think the oil work is beautiful. All of my favorite Stellas are oils.

To expect an artist with as much talent as Stella to stick to one medium, to me, seems a bit selfish, but that's just my 2 cents. I think she excels at her canvas, wood and paper work. Am I bias? Maybe, but I was a fan before we worked with her and have only become more so as I have watched her grow over the past few years. Sure her works on paper were what caught the attention of many early on, but to expect her to only stay within that realm, is to stifle her creativity to a degree. Growth in art is all important. She's now arrived into LA and is getting to town on her mural install (see below)... the preview is going out tomorrow AM. Very proud of the work she's put into this new body of work.

I completley agree that it stifles creativity a lot to stick to one medium, but I feel that she does that particular medium much better than anyone else, while I can not say the same thing for her oil work. I know I am being hyper critical as she is obviously very talented. I would just love to see the result of more exploration in the paper medium.

I can't argue that, have always loved her paper pieces and that's where we really helped build her up early on was her works on paper (back when they were $110-$150 for the 1st few months we were getting pieces in). The beautiful thing about art is each have their own perspective on things, their own favorites and from that, great discussions form like the ones on this board. Was just hoping to keep the discussion going and get feedback from others, since I know many favor one over the other and now we have her new works on wood to fall in love with (I know I am).
She's just branching out and spreading her wings, but I feel she'll never abandon works on paper all together by any means. She's got Liner's spot to fill up next year, so I expect a good variety of work for that show once again.

Thanks sabotage, I shall pass that and the other great comments on to Stella. She's down working away on her mural and all is coming back from the framers in a few hours, can't wait. Here's the preview for those that may not have received directly... Stella Im Hultberg- Memento Mori PREVIEW: www.thinkspacegallery.com/2009/07/works.php Hannah Stouffer - Twilight & Fate PREVIEW: www.thinkspacegallery.com/2009/07/project2/works.php Catherine Brooks - The Seeded Wind and Silent Motion... PREVIEW: Preview will be ready on Thursday morning - the show is looking amazing, so we apologize for the delay, but it will be well worth it. All three artists will be in town for the opening reception, so please be sure to come out and say hi.
