Personally, I think these spelunking pieces are pretty great. I'm also too realistic to insist that artists remain "pure" and refuse all commercial work. Man's got expenses... and it's not like he pimped himself out to Marlboro.

 I was in NYC two weeks ago and I got a great opportunity to see his work at Team Gallery and this young lady just came in and I loved how these portraits somewhat overwhelms her... (also like her runny pantyhose which somewhat gives this picture a flaw or so) |

what did you think of the show itself?
i've not got to see it in person, but i got the book that accompanies it. i felt a little grimy looking through it i must admit. a lot of the models look very young.

Well, to be honest with you, I'm accustomed to reading Vice magazines during my days in NYC for a few years so it was actually nice to see that these young people surface up in the show. Even though you'd see many flaws on their physical characteristics , I felt a glimmer of hope from glancing at these portraits. I just never thought about their youthful looks as I simply dug deeper through their emotions and what they do for living (I wouldn't be surprised if a majority of them are art students).

Beautiful film but McGinley sometimes walks a very fine line between fine art and commercial fashion, a crossover that hasn't done other photographers any favours. It would have been better without the super model.
