Just curious. I still have some and if something like the Walker comes out I'll still buy it, but I am no longer buying enough to really call myself a toy collector.
What about you guys?

I really want to say no to that question, but truth be told, it'll never happen.

Yup, I am still collecting. Just got myself the Craola Walrus (all 3), Aiko bunnies and the Super7 Squirm recently. Though compare to last year, I have cut down alot. I just preordered the giant Skuttle as I am still a Touma fan and am waiting for the upcoming Dok A toys. I have sworn off Kaws and am waiting to see what MAD have to offer next month for the madls as well. Sorry, I like staring at paintings and prints, but they don't play with me

My toy spending had dropped off quite a bit over the last year as well, but I still buy some and am looking forward to buying more. I would say that 10% of my fun money still goes towards toys and the other 90% goes towards art and movies.

I go really long periods of time without buying a toy and nothing new really interests me. I do think about picking up the Lad set or some old Mars-1 figures. All of my toys usually tie back to the artists I follow so if they aren't putting anything out, I won't just grab something randomly. you and I seem to be very close in toy buying philosophy

I've got about 10 in total, just bits that catch my eye, I think when I fill two small shelves that will be enough. My gf buys them for me on birthdays and Xmas, as they are a good present to give.

We have cut our toy purchasing way back. But I must say Mindstyle is really creating some spectacular vinyl. Mindstyles Brandt Peters " Slap Happy and Mr. Muggles "& Kathie Olivas "Benny and Red Bird" vinyl sets are insanely beautiful as well as "The Dark Crystal" vinly sets created for the Jim Henson Company. The edition sizes are not bad either. Link below mindstyle.com/products.html

Nate and I still do. But we are in the process of refining what we have. There were a lot of impulse buys when we started collecting so we're phasing that out. I can definitely say we are buying less than we did before and some toys we no longer care for.
Also we've gotten more interested in Japanese vinyl. ^____^
We'll always be toy collectors first but we're slowly moving into more customs and unique pieces. Less production.
The only thing is I love mini-figs. It's hard trying to stop that. So I have to be more selective on what sets I want. It's a slow and painful process.
Nate and I appreciate the arts. We love looking at paintings, getting prints and attending events. So we enjoy both the toy aspect and the art aspect of these hobbies.
But learning towards more toys because well...we like to play with them. =D
I for one am enjoying the photography aspect of toys. I hope to be as good as a few people who share the same interest.

I do still collect them as well - having a store that sells them kind of helps. This said, what do you think about artists that see toys merely as an entry point to their art? I don't have names in mind, but I've read / heard comments by some that were really disrespectful to the medium, basically looking at toys as a necessary evil. I found it funny considering how lowbrow is itself looked down upon by the "highbrow" art world...

I still collect but my pallet is hard to please these days. With western or "Art" toys I basically only collect hand painted by the artist/creator toys at this point. I recently got a D Soule hand painted inventsville set and a KO Benny and red bird custom set, this type of toy is cooler ( in a way) than a painting for me.
With Japanese vinyl I seem to be leaning toward vintage or bizarre ( for example Dempagnon or Monster Parade). I also love clear toys so I keep buying clear stuff too. I try to have a archive of all the good sculpts in my collection.
I keep buying all the Real Head toys out of some sort of strange collector obligation. I have the largest collection of RxH besides Mori so I feel like I am supposed to keep up. I can't figure out a way to bow out, the 5 year anniversary might work for me. Lucky for me I can get most everything now and at a discount. If I wasn't working at S7 I would have probably given up by now.
I will always love toys but I'm not into statues, endless color ways don't work for most toys, platforms are lazy, and interesting art usually doesn't translate well into 3d. The current state of western vinyl is dire, there are so many toys that have no real reason to exist beyond stroking someones ego. If your toy isn't fun to play with or an extension (read: accessible or cheap) of your art then what is the point? A lot of the stuff I see on vinyl pulse these days isn't anywhere near as cool as the stuff you can find at toys r us for a lot less money.
Play with your toys!

I found it funny considering how lowbrow is itself looked down upon by the "highbrow" art world... I've honesly never gotten into collecting toys, I used to collect PEZ dispensers growing up and I know how much room those little things eventually begin to take up. So the toys just never really appealed as much to me because of that I think. Anyways, I have seen an artist that I really enjoy start more with art and then move most of his efforts into creating toys. To me this was kind of dissapinting because although his toys were kind of cool they just weren't something I could see myself ever buying. Seeing his art being put in the back seat to toys was just not the route I wanted to see him go. I guess toys are for some people but not all. I do see the appeal since I have collected something similar in the past but it's just not for me anymore.

I'm very selective with toys too - like art, I buy what I really like or connect with and usually just one colorway in a given piece. My style is modern so no room for clutter! The pieces I have bought in the last year have been MindStyle also Tom - I was lucky to get the KO Vintage Benny and to ice the cake, Kathie signed and sketched it for my birthday! Thanks to Ally and Melanie! (pic below). I broke my rule with the Bennys though and got the color and mono sets too. I just picked up a set of Kathies Scavengers (cool little guys) - looking forward to Brandts 16" Vintage Slappy from MindStyle too. Havent decided on which colorway - its going to be a floor piece in my living room! Most of our toys I keep in a closet and rotate them in and out to change things up a bit. One I've always kept out is Neccesaries Antoinette... Tara wants ALL of the Scavengers... jIm
