Another newbie question from a newbie collector! Forgive me if this has been rehashed elsewhere but I couldn't find anything under search...
I'm intrigued by the possibility of having a piece(s) made as a commission from various artists whose work I love. Is there an accepted etiquette for inquiring about this? keep in mind i have no personal relationship with any of the artists themselves, so it isn't like i have a "foot in the door" or anything.
Is it considered rude to just contact the artist directly through their website? Should one go through a gallery that represents them?
I really have no earthly idea. I was planning to just email them directly but don't want to come off as rude/pushy whatever...

Many thanks! I wonder why that didn't come up on search? Hmm... Apologies for the forum clutter and please feel free to delete.

the proboards search is not great.... it defaults to last 7 days and a lot of people don't notice that.
there is also the google search at the bottom of the page to search within the site itself. i usually use both to double check.
