Everyone do yourself a favor and read this interesting perspective on Fairey It's worth it. I'd like to hear arguments against this guys views. LOL, if Mat Gleason says so it must be wrong!

I don't want to sound like an "Art Critic Critic" He's an art critic that I don't care for much. I don't want to go into details on why I feel that way here. Just go read some of his stuff and form your own opinion. Start here coagula.com/?cat=6.

the guy just doesn't get it and clearly has his own personal agenda. His primary persona is to prove "most art sucks". What a nice guy huh? Mat is just a desperate dude looking to leach off the backs of any up and comers by hurling insults.
showing off the finer points of being a super intellect:
"coca-cola and shepard fairey are both on the street, and both are a brand providing an empty experience." Hahaha "not only is Shepard Fairey not an artist, he's probably the farthest thing from art there is." Hahaha.
More fine points from Mat on what he considers a great artist. Then ultimately contradicts himself while blowing Don Ed Hardy in mid statement.
"Don Hardy and his tatoo's art is at the highest caliber", "Don is tuned into a much higher consciousness" ahaha, meanwhile everyone including my mother-in-law is now wearing Ed Hardy T-Shirts, belt buckles and soon to be underwear. "Don really elevates the level of a dragon and can really understand and communicate what a dragon is culturally." ahaha
Dude = TOOL

i will bro. Was caught blind sided last week by a major incident that sent my 3 yr old to CHOP in Philly. I lived on a couch there for almost 5 full days. Just trying to get back into the swing now that she's safe and sound... and more importantly home.

Sounds like the retrospective show at the Boston ICA is scheduled to go to the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh (October 2009 - February 2010) and then to the Lois & Richard Rosenthal Center for Contemporary Art in Cincinnati (February - May 2010).

Wow great news also I am betting there is going to be a DOH5 print release at some point, curious if you loaned a work to the show do you have to approve it to go to the next gallery

Yes... if you loaned works to the ICA, then the curator has to send you new release forms and get you to agree to reloan your works under the new agreement.

Rest of the the article on the Boston Globe.After a brief respite from the controversial whirlwind that swept him up in copyright infringement and vandalism charges earlier this year — during which time he spoke to ARTINFO about his latest campaign poster of Burmese dissident Aung San Suu Kyi — Shepard Fairey is back in the headlines again for pleading guilty to three counts of vandalism in a Boston Municipal Court. By agreeing to the plea deal, the 39-year-old street artist avoided prosecution of 11 other counts of vandalism that were pending. Two of the charges to which Fairey pleaded guilty were recent acts of vandalism, while one occurred in Brighton, Massachusetts, in 2000. As part of the arrangement, Fairey has also agreed not to carry stickers, posters, wheat paste, or any other graffiti-making tools while in Suffolk County for the next two years, and will pay a $2,000 fine to the Graffiti NABBers for the Neighborhood Association of the Back Bay, a group that opposes his work. He issued an apology to the citizens of Boston, saying, "I believe in the importance of making art accessible through many avenues, and I will continue to advocate the use of legal public spaces for meaningful artistic expression and communication.... However, I also believe it is important that people respect private property and do not use it without the authorization of the owner."

This guy wants to challenge shepard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's such a shame to see another artist put so much effort into criticism but I guess the guy is desperate for any sort of recognition.
