Whoa! That Ray Ceasar piece is huge. I really dig that Chris Ryniak painting, the corners he added to it look great.

Just the Keyes and a piece from an artist I just discovered Mark Covell (an artist having a mini show in the other room). Here are pics of your two pieces Oli, as you requested ;D (nice pickups, congrats).

Before the official web previews were sent out, I was fortunate to see a sneak preview of a couple pieces in the show (I forgot which blog posted it, maybe it was the Hi Fructose blog). One that grabbed my attention was the Jeff Gillette piece, "Elegy". It's a piece featuring one of his slumscapes, but this one featured a girl urinating on a Robert Motherwell painting.
Although I am currently paying off one gallery, and am limited in what I can purchase right now, I inquired about this painting anyway. They have been quite flexible with me on payment terms before. So Copro Nason came back and quoted me $3,200. I was taken aback since his recent show featured much larger paintings for only $1,800 and it did not sell out. That's nearly an 80% jump in pricing in just a matter of 2 or 3 months. I sighed and had to pass...
But I now see that it ultimately sold for $2,600. Nice, a 20% discount from what I was quoted. I am not angry (if I was, the tone and content of this message would be quite different, trust me). I'm just a bit saddened, I guess. Was the eventual buyer just more aggressive and made a take it or leave it offer? Or what? Whatever. Life goes on.
Just thought I'd share. I used to always support Copro and I know in some of my earliest posts in this forum, I definitely considered them one of the good guys. But I guess that really just varies from transaction to transaction, collector to collector, etc.
No point to my post, really. Except to recount how I got quoted the sucker's price.

Well there's a reason why they're called art dealers ... they deal. I've found that most dealers will give you a 10% discount. Usually a lot easier to get if a piece of work doesn't move quickly. Sometimes it's the artist who sets prices and the dealers just have to go with that.
