LeBasse Projects presents: ‘Familiar Strangers’ New work from Yoskay Yamamoto June 12th – July 3rd 2010 Artist reception: Saturday, June 12th, 7-10p LeBasse Projects is proud to announce, Familiar Strangers, a solo exhibition from Japanese artist Yoskay Yamamoto. This will be the artist’s third solo exhibition with the gallery, and will mark his most diverse body of work to date. The show represents a breakthrough in work from Yamamoto containing both painting and sculptural work. The show will reflect a continuation of intimate statements of self-expression that began in his last series of exhibitions. Yamamoto’s previous exhibition focused on the artists’ external struggles and experiences while Familiar Strangers is inspired by a detachment from one’s inner self and the rediscovery of ones true nature. Yamamoto states: ‘I feel that I am always trying to fit in with others instead of finding or creating an environment that will naturally accept me as who I am. With the attempt and effort to fit in, I feel that we lose a sense of ourselves and become a familiar stranger within our own body’ Using some of his iconic characters, Yamamoto adds new depth including a thematic use of flowers in the work. Flowers have been chosen because according to Yamamoto. ‘…they carry the essence of growth, but also have such a fragile state.’ The cycle of growth, blossoming and decay echo the circular nature of his previous exhibitions. He usually has one koibito painting at least for each show. Can't wait to see the whole painting. Also introducing some wooden sculptures... Check out a studio visit we did with him recently for extra glimpses.

The back of the pieces contain a small threaded hole that fit with the included hardware... Really everyone should get several and mount them in a mini-installation!

They are a little large for drawer pulls, and they would show fingerprints like you can't imagine. Also, it seems a little disrespectful, somehow.

It would be for the cabinets not drawers but iv already been told no. Your right about the fingerprints as well, id be polished them all the time. Now im thinking about one mounted inside a deep shadowbox frame lined with fabric?

They are about the size of a softball so a bit large for any type of handle...plus kind of a pricey handle as well.
I am really surprised most people only got one. A few were sharp enough to pick up 2 or 4 and plan as a mini-installation. I think they are nearly sold out... The metal ones went quick but only 10 of those.
