My friend Patrick is in LA this week for the west coast launch of the book he recently co-edited. Despite my obvious bias, "Beyond the Street" is a wonderful book, and is one that should be in every art lover's collection. right after the launch event and signing at subliminal projects on thursday 16th september is the opening for shepard fairey's new exhibition, printed matters. a whole bunch of artists and contributors to the book will be there for the signing event. it's sure to be a busy night, but it would be nice if some of the LA artchival members could go and support the event and say hi to Patrick. Posted up some images from the signing here. Pretty nice turnout.

Vania : Extended Version as up at Gestalten shop.gestalten.com/books/recent-releases/vania.html"Russian-born Vania Zouravliov’s surreally haunting illustrations capture a mixture of innocence, beauty, and decay. Inspired by sources as seemingly opposite as Russian folklore, Japanese illustration, and pop culture, his drawings are elaborately composed and demonstrate the technical brilliance of an old master. Gestalten published the first monograph of Vania’s work in 2008, which quickly sold out. This expanded edition not only presents the ample scope of an exceptional talent, but also features more than 30 additional artworks. "

Trespass. A History of Uncommissioned Urban Art www.taschen.com/pages/en/catalogue/art/all/05719/facts.trespass_a_history_of_uncommissioned_urban_art.htm"The last outlaw of visual disciplines Graffiti and unsanctioned art—from local origins to global phenomenon In recent years street art has grown bolder, more ornate, more sophisticated and—in many cases—more acceptable. Yet unsanctioned public art remains the problem child of cultural expression, the last outlaw of visual disciplines. It has also become a global phenomenon of the 21st century. Made in collaboration with featured artists, Trespass examines the rise and global reach of graffiti and urban art, tracing key figures, events and movements of self-expression in the city's social space, and the history of urban reclamation, protest, and illicit performance. The first book to present the full historical sweep, global reach and technical developments of the street art movement, Trespass features key works by 150 artists, and connects four generations of visionary outlaws including Jean Tinguely, Spencer Tunick, Keith Haring, Os Gemeos, Jenny Holzer, Barry McGee, Gordon Matta-Clark, Shepard Fairey, Blu, Billboard Liberation Front, Guerrilla Girls and Banksy, among others. It also includes dozens of previously unpublished photographs of long-lost works and legendary, ephemeral urban artworks. Also includes: • Unpublished images of street art by Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat • Unpublished photographs by Subway Art luminary Martha Cooper • Unpublished photos from the personal archives of selected artists • Incisive essays by Anne Pasternak (director of public arts fund Creative Time) and civil rights lawyer Tony Serra • Special feature: exclusive preface by Banksy"

Yet another street art book to be published soon. Might think it's getting to the point of redundancy..but this one's written in part by Deitch. Should be interesting. Produced by Rizzoli and set to release in April 2011, purportedly in concert with an exhibition by the same name..presumably Jeffery's first efforts to expose street art to a different demographic thorough his new directorship at MOCA. Some of the artists included are Jean-Michel Basquiat, Blu, Martha Cooper, Shepard Fairey, Stelios Faitakis, Futura, Phil Frost, Os Gemeos, Keith Haring, Todd James (REAS), Margaret Kilgallen, Lady Pink, Barry McGee (Twist), Steve Powers (ESPO), Lee Quinones, Retna, Kenny Scharf, Swoon, and Ed Templeton.
