I follow this artist's works through his flickr. And this has always been my favourite piece from him. This image also ended up in his book Check it out here www.heikomueller.de/shop.html

yes, VERY strong images. heiko's work is consistantly brilliant. are the coloured dots used in your pieces as some kind of visual metaphor? i think that they are on one level very simple, but sense a deeper meaning to the use of colour in your work... care to explain heiko?

Thanks sleepboy and svenman! For me the dots are kind of metaphysical. Like there is something in the air that usually is invisible. A certain power or energy. But I also use them to create a balance in color. Well, I try to..

I was working in a closet-sized basement studio for the last 5 years. 4 weeks ago my life changed... Take a look at my new space.

This one looks amazing... great depiction of flames, I cringed when I saw those bodies burning (animal and human). Great piece Heiko... have admired your work for a while. What is the inspiration for this piece? I know you departed a bit from your normal backgrounds/subjects (forests, animal heads, wooden creatures, etc...)with these two 'fire' themed paintings... or had you done this in the past as well? anyway, great piece... Thanks a lot! Actually I already did three small fire drawings in 2008 and 2009. I'm fascinated by those traditional festivals which are held to chase something away, winter for example or the evil in general. In Germany there are some festivals where they are carrying some unbelievable creepy masks. Also Easter fires are very popular in Germany. In 2008 I was looking for a good photo of an Easter fire in the internet and stumbled over some incredible photos from a festival in Valencia (Spain) which they call Fallas. On this festival they are making gigantic dolls (Fallas and Ninots) which they are burning on the final night. The burning is called La Crema. These photos blew me away and the more I searched the more photos I found which made me want to draw or paint these, so I did two small drawings and many people who saw these said that they don't understand why I'm not doing large paintings. And so I finally did it.. I think I did these paintings to feel and to show the power of the fire. The photos I found are great, but I think the paintings convey much better the power of the fire and the scenery. I don't think that the fire pieces are so different to my usual stuff as one of the main subjects in my art is the cycle of life and the continuous flow or the disruption of the flow. And I think the fire pieces fit very well to these themes.

Well said, Heiko. Your fire pieces are very consuming and bold, they definitely convey a sense power and devastation.
I spent a year in Italy in 2008 and did some traveling; Germany, France, Switzerland, Austria, to name a few. Some of the festivals and traditions I saw were unusual but really fascinating. 2 of which, one in Zurich and another in Florence involved the burning of things.

Amazing job Heiko. Ive seen those older and smaller fire pieces you are talking about, and your improvment in technique on the new pieces is staggering! Is almost unbelievable. The fire looks alive, and I love the characters consumed by it. It reminds me of some kind of japanese monster movie apocolypse. I enquired about the pieces at the gallery but unfortunetally they are out of my budget, but If I had the money I would snap one up in an instant.

Thanks grit! Ralf told me that you inquired it. What a pity that it's out of your budget. I know that they are expansive, but actually I worked 3 month on those two paintings. It is not very likely that they will sell at this exhibition, but I'm looking forward to showing them again somewhere else. Maybe in Bologna in January. I don't know.

Best of luck Heiko, I'm sure they will get picked up as they are quite impressive! Bologna is a beautiful city and a good art venue! It was one of my favorite places that I traveled!

Thanks mancub! Yeah, Bologna is one of my favorite cities as well. I was there twice with the illustration course to visit the child book fair. We loved to hang out in the city and buy some fancy clothes. Oh man I'm getting sentimental...

The works are 100% worth the asking price and I dont think they are expensive for the size and obvious time that went into them, its just more than what I personally can afford but i cant image them not selling
