"Billionaire collector Eli Broad has officially chosen the site for a new museum to house his contemporary art holdings, and as many expected, it will be built on the 2.4-acre county-owned lot on Grand Avenue in downtown Los Angeles, just steps from the Frank Gehry-designed Walt Disney Concert Hall and the Museum of Contemporary Art."

From the Art Newspaper Bummer. My town was bidding-- half heartedly it seemed-- for that.

I think it's better to keep these institutions centralized so I'm glad he chose Downtown LA.

Just finished jury duty mere blocks away from the construction and saw this with my own eyes. They are working hard; it was like a swarm of ants building a mound! I ate lunch next door on Monday (as i went to MOCA on Grand during that same lunch break -MOCA is right across the street) and overheard conversation from a few of the contractors about how it is progressing nicely. Broad was there yesterday I believe for some type of media event. Can't wait to see how it turns out.
P.S. MOCA was great. Got to see Jackson Pollock's 1 with my own eyes (not to mention rooms full of other contemporary masters).

Cant really think of anything better than being able to literally collect any piece of art you want & then have your own museum space to display/store it in.
If I think about it I suppose being able to afford anything kind of takes away from the fun & effort to collecting in some aspects but opening your own museum is just awesome IMO.

I'm happy that LA is getting a new museum, and will definitely be checking it out next time I'm in town. However, think your statement should read: Cant really think of anything better than being able to literally collect any piece of art you want & then automatically increase it's value by displaying it in your own museum space" ;D
